    Re: Fish tank filter media

From this sub forum takaco show a product called DFL Filter Rings got uses ? then the price he post worth it ?

    Filter Media

    - Coral Chips (Can choose between small or big pieces). $2/kg, 5kg for $8

    - DFL Filter Rings, made of 83% Monmorillonite Clay. Similar to ceramic rings, but of a ‘fatter’ version. - Fluval Bio-Max High Quality Filter Rings. I am selling at bulk price of only $10.90/kg. 5kg for $49.90. Their market price is USD$8-$13/ 500gm, equivalent to SGD$20-$25/kg. Selling at less than half of market price, rarely imported into Singapore.

-High Quality German Sintered Glass Rings, unsure of the brand, could be JBL/Sera Siporax. Prices of such quality Sintered Glass Rings cost from $16-$45/kg. I am selling them at only $10.90/kg, 5kg for $49.90. Glass Rings offer much more space and surface area for bacterial cultivation than conventional ceramic rings.

-Malaysian Brand Sintered Glass Rings, there might be some colour differences on the rings ( some are white, while some have a slight tan colour), but do not affect its quality and performance. As with all sintered glass rings, has also high surface area and space for bacterial cultivation. $8.90/kg, 5kg for $39.90.

-Bio-homme Plus (Red), popular, excellent, common and effective media for bacterial cultivation, works superbly in both submerged filters/wet-dry filters. Excellent bacterial cultivation in all sorts of filter set-ups. Usually costs $35-$55/kg in Singapore LFSs, I am selling at a bulk price of only $29.90/kg or 5kg for $144.90.

-CTY Aquarium Filter Wool, 3 thick layers in each packet, usual LFS price should be around $2 - $3.50+, I am selling them at only $1.80/packet, 20 packets for $34. Strong, sturdy, traps dirt easily, distributes water flow around the wool well, thus maximizing usage.

    Re: Fish tank filter media

Bamboo charcoal is not the same as activated carbon. While it will absorb impurities, it takes longer to do so. Plus you cannot leave the carbon or charcoal in the tank for too long. It must be removed once it is no longer effective, which is a variable period depending on the quality of the activated carbon.

As for the DFL filter rings, no comment. Pricing wise in that list, you can make the decisions yourself by getting price quotes at a big LFS. For the difference of few dollars, you'll end up wasting more money just making a trip to get something cheaper elsewhere.
