They are kept in my office which only has aircon during week days. I did not use chiller. So far only regular water top up every 3 - 4 day using filtered water from the diamond brand water dispenser in my office pantry without use of anti chlorine.

The only thing that could have made it even better would be to use mini fissiden instead of spiky moss. Reason being that moss require trimming after 2-3 months while mini fissiden can do without trimming for longer period. The reason why I used spiky moss was to create the pine tree look-alike and since it was readily available by harvesting from my shrimp tank at home low maintenance and low cost.

Hi bro, I'm no expert but from what I understand, a tank considered cycled when ammonia and nitrite reading is zero. So I don't think it has anything to do with the tank size. Folks from the old school may suggest 1 month for the bacteria to colonize properly. However, there are many ways to speed up the process, such as taking matured media from existing established tank to seed your new canister, adding commercial ready bacteria such as Bacterlife, Ada green bacter, etc. The key is patience; most eager hobbyist like myself can only wait 2 weeks. So for my case, I do the earlier mentioned combinations. I'm also a believer of planting heavily will help water quality.

Do let me know if they survive. I don't have a chiller as well. What is the temperature of your tank now? I want to take temp reference. Thanks.

Thanks! I just harvest 10 juveniles from this tank to put in my home 2ft shrimp tank which is on fan only. Somehow my home setup is not conducive in keeping crs/bds beyond 7-8 months. The cooler temperature in aircon office does make alot of difference.

Hi there, best you create a new thread

    In any case,
    1) go for 15x15x20, best if its bigger,
    2) You can keep bettas if you want. if you got experience, go for CRS, else i recommend cheaper shrimps like cherry. Reason being, tank is very small and anything can go wrong fast
    3) Soil only needed if you planning for rooted plants, else those normal inert gravel (thin layer) is fine.
    4) Up to you, some prefer black, others white.

Re: Low Tech IQ3 CRS Tank

If I get you correctly, you intend to have "non filter tank", so I would not recommend you to keep crs as they are more sensitive to water condition. I have success in no filter tank for sakura which is still in operation today, do a search in my thread for details. There are lots of information posted by fellow forumers if you spend time to do a quick search.

    Thanks for your reply bro!
Thought I'll post here since Bro Tony had similar tank setup as I wanted. Any idea if light is needed? Do not intend to have extra light, just office lights..
Will consider your advise in getting FRS instead of CRS. Any idea where is selling nice Fire Yellow Shrimps??

    Hi bro Tony,
Saw your thread in no filter tank thus decide it is something i can setup in office because of the low to near no maintenance.

I've initially started the no filter pico with no light for close to 1 year with light source from office but find the moss grew stringy and thin, though the shrimp won't mind that too much but it does not look pleasing. The moment I added a small clip on light.... Drastic improvement with lush green moss but need to trim each 2-3 months as it fills the tank. So you decide which is better.

Re: Low Tech IQ3 CRS Tank

I thought the thread title is IQ3 CRS tank?

If you intention is to do a small tank in the office, without drawing too much attention from Boss eyes,
I suggest you stick to moss setup.
I saw these pre-tied pieces of DW with moss and nanas selling at C328 for $7-8. If you put one nice piece inside the IQ3 and add a moss ball/rocks with Star moss, should be ok for starters. Add extra stuff later.

I thought the IQ3 comes with built in filter?
    Is the pump not working?
Or is it because you dont have a power source where the tank is placed?

Also, you may try to keep CRS or Sakura shrimps without cooling fans or filtration, but I feel it is cruel.

We are not talking about feeder (ghost) shrimps here right?

Anyway, i am sure you can keep the CRS / Sakura without filter (low grades maybe) But i think you will have limited sucesss with CRS in such a small setup (no berrying/sudden deaths - at least until the tank matures).
You will need to change water more often?

(I read a superheated thread by someone who claim he can keep shrimps in tau huay tubs which was put down by several forum shrimps breeders, so I hope this thread does not become like that thread. A IQ3 is just a bigger tau huay tub, right?)

Even with filtration, due to the IQ3 size, please refrain from overloading with too many fishes/shrimps.

For a wallet friendly option, maybe you can pay a visit to C328 and buy a bag of Sakura shrimps (5 for $8 ). If these do well in your IQ3, then you consider whether to add a few CRS inside.

Add a small clip on light or a small LED light. in fact IQ3 has its own compatible clip on light.

These are not expensive. You can check out at Seaview, or C328, Y618 for your options.

Please read up on the many threads from the shrimps experts / sifu.
I always feel that if you want to do a setup, please do it well or don't do it at all.

By the way, I have a nano setup with 2 shrimps, one big trumpet snail, 2 baby swordtails, with some German seaweed (subserberttang) and some blue glass cubes at the base, all in a flower vase. No filter, no light. Simple and beautiful setup. If you PM your number to me, I can whatsapp picture to you.
    Your thoughts?

thanks for your lengthy advise. I though TS had experienced in keeping a nano tank without filter thus posted in his thread for advise. I've open a new thread for my currently setup. Sorry TS.

Don't think I can pm yet. My hp @ 85222913. Me happy to learn from anyone who willing to teach a thing or two.

Re: Low Tech IQ3 CRS Tank

Some update. I've trimmed the moss and removed the carpet for ease of viewing. All doing well and continue to breed. Coming to 6months without water change, only top up with distilled water when water level drops.
