I think 25C is about the lowest the discus can tolerate. I had 2 discus living in air-con temperatures of 21C to 24C for some months and they become less lively and tend to hide among the plants. When I put back the heater to raise temperature to 26C, they are back to normal again.

    Hi Unicorn,

Where can I get reasonably priced Discus? In my office, we use to have Turquoise Blue discus donated by a collague. Now I am looking out for other types for my house tank. Any lobang? Or you have some that you want to clear?

    Thanks

    As for types of Discus,

I guess you may not get a wide varieties in any single LFS or farm. If u r stayin near to Tengah AB, there's a fish farm there call rainbow which they have quite a collection on San Merah, Pigeon, Snow Leopard. Collections on Blue Diamonds, Cobalt, Red Torquise are marginal (not much high fins). There are other Discus breeders which have Blue Torquise, Cover Blue, Ocean Green ?, etc.. which might have some with very nice high fins species. I could go on and on but it will be lengthy. Give me a call if you need further info.

As for my Discus, I have reserve a pair for Joseph (a fellow brother forumer) as I have yet to contact him yet as I am still very busy. I have spotted some nice blue torquise and I might give up some adults to make way for these desired. Lets see how things goes....I'll let you know if you're interested

Hi Unicorn, I bought 5pcs of Leapord Discus from(reputable breeder) in Lim Chu Kang on Wednesday already......cost me something like $100.

Somehow the colouration has change since putting into the planted tank. From Leapord became Turquoise red(According to my fren). Is it due to the water quality, temp?

Is it true that the discus will get stunned if no frequent water change is done?

    Pls offer some advice....Thanks again!

Happy New Year to one and all!

    Happy New Year Bulldog,

A very yes, the water quality for Discus is very important. Depending on the size of your fishes and the water volume, including the number of fishes in the tank ... aka bioload. water change is very important. My personal advise is to change 1/2 to 1/4 of the tank water weekly to maintain the water quality.

As for the leopard changing colour, I have encounter the same situation for some of my hybrid discus in different tank. But generally, I beilve the red of your leopard is due to diet enhancement. Try feeding them with hikari lionhead (sink type) to see if the colour return. Mine does..

    Cheers

Happy New Year to you Unicorn,

I have removed my discus from the planted tank to the tank below. Reason being, it keeps hidding behind the big ozelot and food constantly being eaten by other faster moving fishes. Colour is also not good.

In the tank below, I set temperature to 30 degrees. Which makes the discus really happy(seeing it swimming and feeding well). I am feeding them Hikari Blood worms and also beef heart. On weekends I feed them live brine shrimp. Water change is done almost every day at 50%. I have also added in 2 Clown loaches to eat up unwanted food at the bottom. And added in a baby pearl arowana to take food at the top.

The colour has change from Blue(Plant Tank) to Bright Orange or Yellow with their spots/stripe even reder than before.

I took some pictures of the discus which you can take a look. Some tell me it is Red Turquoise, some say Leopord. Maybe you can tell....

    Hi Aqua,

    1. Water change schedule is weekly 25% and monthly 50%. Note :
Ensure you 'vacuum' your gravel throughly during each change.

    2. Whenever you see 'White' poo..

    3. Feed them with mixed diet : 2 x cubes of bw, Beef heart ...own recipe
    and sera blue staple diet

    4. 2 twice a day..alittle at 0900 hrs before my wife goes to work and enough to consume in 5 minutes 'hand feed' at 2000 hrs... they eat alot ??
hard to answer that ...guess I'm too used to the feed regime..

    Cheers
