i thought those extra bright ones would be better as my tank is a 6 footer but i can only accommodate 2-3 flourescent tubes (4ft).

I suggest you use PL lights. It would be better for you in this case

extra bright is as the name suggest 'extra bright'. they have higher light output. you should not have problem using them for you planted tank.
