Has anyone tried using this product before shown in the video before? I think it makes life way easier but my only worry is about the chlorine added to the tank. Any comments?

    Re: Aqueon Water Changer

This product is similar to the Python No Spill water changer, which is probably much older than this Aqueon. These water changers work but if your fish are sensitive to fresh tap water, it is best not to use it. It's good for making your life simpler though. If you do use this, you ought to add the dechlorinator as the tap water flows into your tank. Pour in the direction of the flow so that the dechlorination process becomes faster.

I haven't seen Python in a very long time. Haven't seen this Aqueon yet either, but I did see a similar product at C328. I forgot the brand name. However, you can just get a coil of rubber hose + snap-fit hose adapters like those from Hozelock to fit on the tap end and in between the hose. A single Eheim double tap should be worthwhile. Don't have to spend money on these devices to be honest.

The only thing you need to worry about is making a skeleton out of PVC pipes to make the U-joint so that it can hang over the tank edge. However, this step is not necessary if you want flexibility.

Just got the items today. Couldn't seem to make it work as how I planned. I couldn't start a vacuum from it.

Did you get a hand pump? Other method is fairly simple, close the double tap, fill up the tube with water on the intake side, dip it in the tank, then open the double tap. Chances are, it will work. Alternative is to just get a hand pump.

In this picture from tradevv.com, the hand pump is the blue section. You only need to squeeze a few times to make it work, but this hand pump has to be in-line. I've seen a rubber version of this hand pump and that one works better.

Scroll down this webpage and you will see the Python Squeeze, which is the rubber hand pump I was referring to.

    Re: Aqueon Water Changer

I already have a hand pump at home. I referred to this website to DIY this : http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/di...mp-python.html

But mine is not as complicated as that , simpler yet has the same concept as the aqueon water changer. Will try to get some pictures after my classes tomorrow.

I had trouble uploading the picture , but I took this picture and edited it from the net.

When water enters, it's suppose to just flow down to the bottom where it leaves , but instead , some water will flow out to the part where the hose is connected and I had trouble starting a siphon because of this.

    Re: Aqueon Water Changer

Simple to remedy this. Add a valve or a single tap to where the hose joint is. That way, you can close it, and the vacuum will start. Alternative is to replace that brass T-joint with a 3-way ball valve. I think I saw one at C328 at the messy area near the left entrance, where they keep the random plastic joints in.

    Re: Aqueon Water Changer

Okay I found out the solution , I didn't have to get anything , all i had to do is close the outlet part and water will fill up the hose. Once the hose is filled , I open it again and the siphon will start!
