The first two pics are of the pair that has been with me for a while. The male is very stable and his collouration is stunning.
The second pair is a recent acquisition. They are settling down now and starting to colour up a bit more. When he is really happy, he looks exactly like the first male.
I have another two pairs that I recently got from C328, all still rather young and have no face masking ... although some light markings are appearing. They are the blue variation though, not like these two pairs.
Haha, i was tempted to buy the unimacs from c328 too, but no space, have to restrain myself![]()
Space is important. I keep these in a 2ft tank for a pair. They do quite well, but still quite aggressive.
That's a handsome pair you've bought. There was a similar thread on these mouthbrooders several years ago & they were bred by some killi keepers;

Good luck breeding them, they are beautiful fishes.![]()

I was very tempted to attempt B.unimaculata when they were available at C328 but the probability of getting a pair of the same sex, especially when they are in stressed colors made me drop the idea.

Those of you who had self-control then were wise. I bought two "pairs" but they're all turning out to look like males. They are young though, still can't fully sex them however, I think the start of face masks is a good indicator of the sex. I have them in my community tank cause I do not plan to breed them, since they are likely related and from the same batch. They are pretty though. 8-) No regrets.
Most Betta species are fairly tough except for a few. Both Betta rutilans & coccina thrived quite well when I used to them. Too bad I didn't get them to breed, as it turns out to be an all male group.![]()

Very beautiful indeed! I hope you manage to breed them! And if the time is right, I'll get a pair from you![]()
Cheers,

Kept (no more) Betta persephone, B. miniopinna, B. sp. palangkaraya, B. uberis, B. channoides, B. burdigala
Pseudepiplatys annulatus, Nannostomus eques
Wow.. nice pair. Maybe i should find a day to drop by to look at your increasing collections. Haha.
Two pairs, do they look identical? Hahaha. The first two are a slightly older pair than the last two pics. Need to move some of the channoides before I can get anymore. They are taking up too much space.
Very nice pair you have there.
