Re: confused on which light set to get

Are you planning a planted tank or shrimp tank bro?
Also, what is the main subject in this tank? Would it look better with a very cool colored bluish light? Or would full white bright light be better?
If you're hoping to be able to grade your CRS's colors properly, I would stick to the white lights.
If you like your mosses to look darker, then the blue lights.

I cannot be sure if the blue light would be as good for growing those mosses though

hi , thats my problem ..... I'm into crs with some moses . wondering to get half blue or full white led .
not sure half blue is good for growing mosses. half blue and white is around 12k . while full white give 6500k

New way of creating blue bolts! Hahaha.

LEDs are not really good for growing plants anyway, mosses should not be much of a problem though from what I gather. Ask bro eviltrain how which one he uses. He has been using them for sometime now.

What i understand from the shop is that those plants on rooted on soil or located on the surface of soil will have difficulties getting the lights.

LED lights are sufficient for moss. Even my tiger lily are doing ok with LED lights. I have been using full white T8 LED tubes since July 2011 same type as what Eviltrain is using.

Is LED enough for mini Pelia?

I find that with fish and shrimps tend to be less shy with LED light.

My mini pelia in a 30cm cube with Aquazonic LED is growing well.

I like the look of BeamWorks but it is very low profile hence placed very near the top of your tank. If your water level is too high, water can easily splash on it causing parts (especially the metal legs resting on your tank)

Yes i agree BeamWorks does have a low profile and it depends on how you have your setup done..

I beg to differ; the "lumen aqua" series of light that the threadstarter is aiming, should be using high-wattage LEDs. LumenAqua Sunshine 4feet models are using 3-watt-per-diode class of LEDs (though their 2-feet models seem to be using run-of-the-mill LEDs); LumenAqua Ultra-Brite & LumenAqua Ocean are using 1.5W-per-diode Osram LEDs; LumenAqua Max models are using 3-watt-per-diode Philips LEDs; the LumenAqua "Nano" models are using 1.29W-per-diode LEDs.

I believe, when u say "LEDs are not really good for growing plants anyway", you are referring to the common 0.06W per diode LED fixtures; which are still adequate for moss. Just divide the total wattage of the light fixture by the total number of bulbs to determine roughly the "calibre" of LED you are paying for.

It depends on the wattage of each LED bulb of the LEd fixture you are using. I will say fixtures using 3W-per-diode class of LEDs, should do your pelia al right.

Let me guess, you should be using either the Eco-quarium LED tubes, offered by Inware? If I'm not wrong, their 2-feet tube only consumes 8-watt of energy in total, should unless their tube only has 3 LED "bulbs", it is unlikely that their LED are rated at near 3-watt-per-diode.

I like the beamwork series' physical outlook as well, too bad, except for one model, the rest all uses 0.06W-per-diode class of LEDs. Unfortunately, that single model that uses slightly-better 1-watt-per-diode LEDs, has the usual clamp-on-edge fixture.

Let me guess, is it the AquaZonic Sirius LED model?

I was under the impression that planted tanks, especially those pumping CO2, shouldn't have too much surface agitation?

So threadstarter, which LumenAqua model are you getting?

Re: confused on which light set to get

For both my tanks the lights I use are not high-wattage LEDs. I am not doing planted but just keeping shrimps with plants like fissiden, mini fissiden, mini pelia, tiger lily, narrow leave java fern.
    - 2ft using Eco-quarium LED tubes (8W)
    - 30cm cube using AquaZonic slim LED 32+8 LEDs (3.2W)

Threadstarter's purpose is similar to mine, shrimp tank with low requirement moss/plants. Normal 0.06W LEDs would be sufficient, using high-wattage LEDs is an overkill and may cause algae problems.

As for surface agitation, a well oxygenated tank is good for shrimps. Hence airstone or airsponge filter would be benifical.
