After eliminating BBA from my tank some 3 months back. They are back to haunt my tank as before. All things being equal, dosing of ferts and such, lighting. The only difference I supposed, is the lack of CO2.

Back when I blasted CO2 at 30ppm. BBA started dying...but now, they are back. I will go back and reapply the regime of blasting CO2 at 30ppm once the cylinder get filled this friday. The battle is not won but I will fight on.

    Try some of these...

    Anostomus ternezi

They really eat BBA in my experience. Especially if you starve them.

You can easily accomodate 4 in a 4 ft tank.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

You can try Gan's Fish Farm if your regular LFS does not have them. But they are not cheap like the SAE. I think the prices have stablised around S$12-15 each recently. It was going for S$25 at a shop in Joo Chiat about 8 months back. Crazy! But I suppose there's a good reason why this fish is so much in demand.

Seriously speaking, algae eaters are only a means to an end. It is not the solution to the BBA issue I have right now. I am a believer that with proper fertilization and right amount of CO2, we can say good bye to algae as long as plants out compete the algae. But that's just my thought.

BTW, I have tried the fish mentioned by Benny. Got them at 12 a piece effective but aggressive fishes.

Been away for about 10 days and my glosso bed had BBA(probably lack of CO2-switch off cos manual regulator), did wc, massive trimmings for 2 days straight, already about a week passed and still fighting them.[]

Really stubborn alage... and I 'll be away ard CNY...[]

I tried Hydrogen Peroxide before... really deadly to the algae(they melt before your eyes)... but MUST USE WITH CAUTION! I used it only as last resort, Massive water change needed to prevent any harm to fishes and shrimps.

When you mentioned aggressive, are they aggressive only to their own species or to other fishes as well ?

Friend when Hydrogen peroxide H2O2 decay.. it break down to H2O (water) + O (merge with other free O to form O2 Oxygen) So why is it harmful?

there is write up, it inidcate that no need water change... Or is it dubious info again...

They are quite aggressive. But so far have not caused any death yet. All they will do is stalk out a innocent passing spotted cory. Occassionally can see them try to nib some other fishes' body but not too much harm is done.

I got them at Gan's at $10. He told me that its 'cigar' fish. Hahaha...

I got a pair of them in my tank... no problems with aggression.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Lack of, or fluctuating CO2 levels will usually lead to BBA.

It could be sex dependent. I had 4 and 2 of the brightly colored ones ( I suspect they're males) were so aggressive that they dared to nip at the fins of my arowana...
