Plantless tank is fine, but you may need to watch the water quality more closely. Hydrilla is a weed in most cases, but if you are using it in this tank, please do not plant them with the lead weight or the foam or wool that they might have come with.

Thanks for all the reply, my current tank has some HC that are not growing too well, they don't seems to grow but are doing fine, no rotting etc, however the shrimps love them as they always chew on the HC. So i decided not to remove them.
I guess most likely i have to watch the water closely, currently only 2 female and 2 shrimplet sakuras in the tank. Might get a test kit to test the pH and gH then add more shrimps.
My hydrillas are just planted straight into the soil, no foam or anything else.
That works but this plant is prone to rotting at the base where you insert into the soil.

The Hydrilla. You can leave them floating like Hornwort, eventually some roots will sprout.
