    Hi Guys,

Some update: I have bought Ada soil from CRS haven and now my system is cycling for about 5 days. I have also bought some weeping and flame moss to decorate the tank. Will upload pictures later tonight.

But I have a question at the moment.

    1) if i get a chiller in the future, do I need an external filter in order to pump water into the chiller. Or can I still use my existing tray filtering system and having another pump for my chiller?

I suggest, in the future if you upgrade and you intent to get a chiller, get a external canister filter also.
Easier for you to manage with chiller. On top of that the canister filter is much better than using a normal tray filtering system, as it uses biological filtration to help breakdown harmful substance like nitrate and ammonia. Using a tray filter is not as effective and not sufficient, if you have the budget change to canister filter first. Instead of chiller you can use fan first, try to do it right the first time. Rather than to waste more money in the long run.

True. Do you have any in mind to recommend. My tank is 2 feet so would like to know whats your opinion. is Eheim 2215 good? any problem with chiller compatibility?

Eheim 2215 is good enough, I'm running on eheim 2215 and 2224 on my 2 tier 2ft tank. Chiller using resun Cl 280.
You can checkout for good second hand deals on the buy/sell thread if you keen to get.

    Hey guys!
Nice to see more guys into shrimps.
I just started my tank too.
Cycled for 3 weeks before I got myself 11 CRS (heard lots about the toughness but still can't resist becoz they are too cute).
They have been around for two weeks now.
    Left 8 of them.
    Temp 27.2-27.8
    Ph 6.6
    Gex soil (red packaging type)

Heard from one of the breeder that PH is the most important factor.
Experienced it myself which causes the death of my shrimp.
So far I'm still using fan to control my temp.

Media can varies from 1kg $5 to $30 depending on how good it is. Media can be normal ceramic rings, bio balls, biohomme, seachem matrix and etc.
It's all about preference and quality of the media choices.
Just to share the retail price of a new eheim canister - http://www.blueplanet.sg/Eheim_products.htm before you determine whether the second hand canister is worth buying.
Always look out for the condition, ensure no leakage or crack, pump still working, all accessories are included or even like warranty still effective.

Hi welcome to AQ, it's always nice to see new members.

From your perimeter readings, IMO your temp slightly on the high side, best kept at 25~26.
PH 6.6 is also high, try to reduce to 6.2~6.4 for better condition.

Can try adding some borneo wild humic, mosura soft water or benibachi fulvic grain to reduce your PH further.

Now it is slowly warming up. Soon you will need to have a chiller to keep your CRS. At the temperatures that you are keeping them in they might survive but it will be very hard for them to thrive.

PH is not the most important factor but one of the factors keeping the CRS alive. The ideal range is from about 6.2-6.8.

It is a combination of factors that determine if your CRS just survive or thrive.

Bro, very difficult to control until 6.2 - 6.4....
im always either below that or above that....haha..... =p
Im thinking of adding some drift wood in to slight increase the acidity.
    Im currently using fan.
So i top up almost every night using water from a pail with PH adjusted using chemical earlier.

Bro, u are right. The tank is showing sign that it is warming up.
Im thinking of getting a chiller.
But my tank is a fluval edge.
Might not have enough space to squeeze the tube and another pump in. =(
Any bro here using a fluval edge with chiller???

You can try getting a iceprobe or nano chiller but they are not cheap.
Usually they are design for nano marine tanks. You can find out more online or checkout the marine section.

Simple and neat. You will have to figure out a way to cover the filter inlet though, otherwise you will have another community in your filter.

Are those HC? I suggest that you change them to something else if it's HC, else you will be scooping our floating HC all day long like me. Your light don't seem to be bright enough for the tank,

Re: Newbie building my first Shrimp tank.

That's premium price for a mesh.... Advise you visit hardware stores for the mesh. Much cheaper.

For myself, I visit only 1 supplier for all my stainless steel meshes. You may PM me if you are interested, I can direct you to them but not sure if the distance is alright for you.
