If im not wrong, is this an internal pump? If so, just connect the outlet tube to your ohf?

Actually I don't understand your question. Are you intending to use this as your intake, and then connect the outlet into a box filled with the bio media? In that case, you would still need a pump to bring the filtered water from the box into the tank, no?

im guessing if u have the over head trays , than just pipe to the top of the tray and let it drizzle down back into the tank. the tank might not have very good circulation thou.

    Low tech tank FTW!

i agree too. i recently converted to HOF but the circulation wasn't good either and I could see one side of the tank was cleaner than the other primarily because of how the moving was circulating in the tank. I just did my WC and decided to switch back to an internal filter, even if it's ugly.

internal pumps usually quite weak, might not have the power to drive the water through an OHF.

    Re: Noob Question DIY OHF

Your water circulation seems fine from the picture but if you intend to use the OHF you will need a stronger powerhead than the one currently in your tank. With the OHF in place you can remove the plastic box filters to conserve space.

The plant on the right is a Dracaena species aka "lucky bamboo". If you don't let it grow above water soon, it will rot and die in a few months time. This plant is toxic to pets.

That works too. Keep in a shallow dish of water like how they are normally sold at markets and shops. As long as the upper parts of the plant is not fully submerged, it will survive.

It is Dracaena sanderiana. Commonly sold at LFS for aquarium use but not meant to be as such. You can Google for photos if you are not sure. I don't know how your plant dried up, but reading more on their care would be best if you happen to buy these again.
