Omg! Glad its a joke. I got 2 from lucasjiang yday. Hope they are happy campers in my tank!

By the way, anyone knows how to tell if they aren't doing well or dead? Cos you know, they don't move.

Stirred fried chopped garlic, a little salt with clam(if you love it spicy, add some fresh cut chili).... Super yummy!
I always link them to food although I will never eat them from someone tank.
I prefer natural than tank breed.

If its dead it will smell awfully bad just like nerite snails? Your fingers that pick it up will be stained with the stench.

If they are alive, their shells will open and they will take in water through their siphons. They usually do it at night.

By the way, they do eat quite a lot, my greenwater production couldnt cope with feeding 4 clams

Hi lucasjiang, I haven't seen them.open so I'm quite worried. Sigh.... It would be.such a pity if they didn't even manage to make it thru the taxi ride home.

They remain shut just like other bivalves when they are stressed. You will only see the shells being opened slightly for them to feed or move around when they are fully settled in. Since they are particle sifters, perhaps a yeast solution can be an alternative when green water is not available. Look at these video links to see how other bivalves move:

These clams use a foot to move around, much like snails, but in a different manner.

That's so cool! I really hope the 2 in my tank are still alive. It's been a few days and I haven't seen them open up. BUT. yesterday I did wake up to one of them being half buried in the subtrate. I'm not sure if it wiggled itself into it or if the fishes buried it. So worried.
lucasjiang, did yours take very long to settle in and open up after you brought it home?

They opened up the very night after i reached singapore. Dont worry, sometimes they will open just a small crack. As long as it remains closed, it should still be alive. Dead clams will open very wide.
