how does the quantity of filter material in a basket affect flowrate?

Would the flow rate be reduced if say I have a basketful of substrat/matrix (or any filter material that has an irregular shape and not inside a filter bag) compared to say half-basketful?

I know that there are various factors that can affect flowrate. But say I'm talking about the same canister. the only difference is that I tried to check flowrate with 1 basket full of matrix and then decide to check again with half full basket.

This is dependent on how fast this type of filter media clogs up. The water passes through this media before it hits the upper sections, so it will only stop the larger particles but not the smaller bits.
