Not to interrupt your tank setup thread, but I was wondering about the properties of the gravel (which is the same as what I'm using). Would it affect water parameters? And will it expire like other shrimp soil products?

What shrimp you planning to keep?

What type of gravel is that?

Re: setting up my gravel shrimp tank

I couldn't find any information online regarding the gravel too. I originally got this gravel from a LFS with no intention of having shrimps (just plants), but added them a couple of months later without changing the substrate. I was thinking they should be quartz gravel.

So far I have yamatos, cherries and recently aura blue in the tank for 2 years with no issue. I was wondering if I need to reset the tank and change the gravel (though it still looks the same from day 1).
