    Hi guys,

I was counting my shrimps today and realise that each day, my shrimps get lesser and lesser. I suspect some of my shrimps could have been sucked up by my filter. I shut down my canister and open it up and saw about 10 shrimps swimming. Scooped them up and placed them back in my tank.

2 days ago, i bought a sponge to cover the inlet of my filter. Will this affect the filtration? Because i notice alot of dirt get stuck on the sponge. Also do I have to get a sponge to cover the entire inlet? Right now only the top part is not covered, the sides and bottom are all covered.

    Hi,

Need to take out and clean the junk off. But don't forget to off filter.

Forget to add, yes the water inlet need to cover. Else defeat why you using it for.

Some are using mesh inlet. I think gush has. $10+

Your not alone, my shrimp jumped to my modded skimmer with less "teeth" and I have 2-3 living in filter.

Sponge will not affect in the beginning but after few week the flowrate may reduce. Then you will need to take out the sponge and wash. Previously I using sponge also but change already due to lazy to wash....hehe

For me I'm using gush mesh filter to cover the filter inlet or use fine fish net cover it up.

Some picture of my filter cover in this 2 method.

Can consider stocking too, very cheap, and stretchable enough to cover entire head like robbers in retro HK movies.

Problem with stocking is that some of them are made from material that will affect your water, especially dyed ones, or those with low quality material that will degrade with constant exposure to tank water.
