Generally not advised to keep shrimps in such small tanks, it's very difficult to keep stable parameters,
Over CNY, I was given a small pico tank (approx 23x18x15cm or 6L) with a small HOB filter and plan to use it to keep dwarf shrimps like RCS or their yellow cousins.
Have a couple of questions as I don't have any experience in keeping dwarf shrimps....
- Any differences in keeping glass shirmps vs dwarf shrimps? ie: are they hardy? do they have specific needs?
I've 10 glass shrimps in my main planted tank (soft 6.0pH water) ...all of which have grown from tiny ones into 4-5cm monsters, without having to take specific care of them (apart from dropping in the occasional sinking pallet for them)- What sort of water conditions like pH and temp do dwarf shrimps like RCS prefer?
The pico tank is currently undergoing cycling, with water pH around 6.0+, as it has a substrate of ADA Amazonia II soil.- Do RCS or other dwarf shrimps eat those sinking algae palettes or other fish food?
I currently feed my glass shrimps with sinking fish food palettes for plecos and algae palettes. The glass shrimps have no problems picking and tearing at those hard palettes with their claws.- How many shrimps can I keep in that small pico tank?
- Any recommended filters for such a small tank? How much flowrate can dwarf shrimps tahan?
The current HOB filter is quite useless when I try to pack in a denser filter media....planning to get another filter.

Pico tanks can keep cherry shrimps - cherry are easier.
Bro Navanod and Cheetf , That tank is more than suitable for keeping cherry shrimps.....I kept cherry shrimps in beancurd containers before and they just keep breeding for me .
Yes I do agree that the tank is really very small, which was why I thought only of keeping dwarf shrimps and not fish. perhaps I may have to rethink and start budgeting for a slightly larger tank (thinking about 15L size tank).
Tank size aside, what sort of water parameters are suitable to RCS?
Are RCS just as hardy as glass shrimps?
would regular fish food be sufficient for them?
Learning the hardway, not the highway.

Maybe he mean those pail that they sell beancurd from?
Intriguing bro...what form of container did you use?
This?
Or this?
I hope its not this?
That's just cruelty.
Jokes aside, I would not even advocate keeping betta in a tub without filters or waterflow.
Finding the barest standards of living for our shrimps is not what this hobby is about.

Beancurd container to keep shrimps and they breed? Without aeration and Filter? Any Plants? Or just water and nothing? I'm amaze! How long did you manage to kept them?
Lets get back to the topic shall we everyone? The thread's kinda derailed into keeping things in food wares.
RCS are hardy but perhaps not as hardy as glass shrimps. I do not have experience with the latter but I've seen these feeder shrimps in rather disgraceful conditions and still alive and active.
RCS can take a rather large range of conditions, given proper acclimatization. I suggest you do a quick google search that would turn up a fair bit of info on that.
They take fish food yes, but for proper growth, you should probably consider getting sinking food with calcium. "Supercrusta" and "Hikari crab cuisine" are rather inexpensive and readily accepted by my RC/FRshrimps.
Keep in mind that a larger tank may actually be cheaper in the long run and may not cost alot more than a small one in the first place. The usual constraint is weight and space. Aim for at least a 1.5 ft tank if you can and as long as you resist overstocking the tank with livestocks, it can work out quite nicely.
I kept those cherry shrimps in those rochor beancurd containers. They breed like rabbits for me.I only add some plants in the beancurd container.Water change using a small syringe about 50ml per week. The babies are fed with some bioplus. No filtration of any sort is used.Water used for changing is water from the tap plus seachem prime aged for about 2 days.Adult cherry are fed as usual with crs specialty food.
Excellent job bro, I'm sure many of us could use some additional plant based protein in our diets.
However, I cannot derive any joy from this practice so I'm still unable to endorse your methods and I would urge other hobbyists not to do the same. Just because we could, doesn't mean we should.
err, please advice how many piece a tub? any soil in them?
can i try on those curry fish head tubs from zhi char stalls?
