    Hi,
Anyone tried using a peltier + heatsink + fan for cooling?
I'm thinking of doing up one to chill my CRS tank.

how big is your crs tank?

i dont really recommand you to DIY a peltier to chill your tank. its alot cleaper in long run if you gets a chiller to chill your tank.

    Mine is a fluval edge.
    1.5ft probably.
I'm looking at controlling it at 25 degree from 27+
But do not know how effective it is.

Compressor chiller confirm works better than peltier chiller.

Singapore's weather wont work very well on peltier.

Peltiers are highly inefficient compared to conventional compressor type chillers. The efficiency difference can be anywhere from 4 to 12 times so it's alot of energy wasted and alot of heat to disperse.

The only advantages of the peltier is that it is smaller, requires no gas and no moving parts other than a fan to cool the hot side. I agree with Eviltrain bro, it'll likely cost more in the long run

    Re: DIY Chiller

If you want a Peltier type TEM-based chiller then those Dolphin brand chillers will suit your purposes. As the rest have pointed out, long term, these TEM chillers are not as efficient as conventional chillers. Ambient temperature plays a big role in determining how well these things work, as with cooling fans, and it doesn't help that our climate is naturally warm.

Should you choose to use these TEM chillers, might as well have a big fan blowing at your tank.

    Re: DIY Chiller

I agree, just buy the Dolphin TEM chillers.
Thought and consideedr this product before.
Just note that the Doplhin TEM chiller can only bring down your tank temperature perhaps 2-4 degrees and if your tank is small (1ft?).
If you are looking at 22-23 degrees and you hve a 4ft, you are better off with a chiller.
It is about energy efficient and capability of the rate of heat transfer of the technology used. The normal chiller has a better transfer per Kilo-watt.
