Hi guys Could you guys pls share what kind of lighting you provide for your glosso? And I'm just wondering is 2x 18w T8 and 1 x 55w PL be sufficient for a 2ft tank , depth 35cm

    Re: Lighting for glosso

    .. thats very intense lighting for a 2ft ? assuming 60 litres , its 5.7watts per gallon.
im not very sure about glosso but for my low tech 2ft , i just have one 55w PL , root monster and excel.
my hairgrass are doing well, and there are old shoots of hc growing out from before i resetted it.

    Low tech tank FTW!

    Re: Lighting for glosso

My tank is 60 x 36 x 35 which is about 20g, T8 in the middle and PL at the extreme back, 91w / 20g = 4.55 watts per gallon. Is that still an overkill for glosso?

That's good. Make sure you dose a lot. And perform 50% water change weekly

Doze alot of co2 and ferts? I'm currently using Ada step 1 , co2 1bps, and given my light rating I can't seem to understand why they're still growing vertically, they're 2 days planted now , bought it from LFS with them growing vertically

is your light tube new? You probably wont see much thing within 2 days. If the light is enough, they will curve down by it self.

You should see it creeping within 2 weeks.
I feel your pl might be getting a tad old

Hi Felix the glosso king! My pl is getting old ? So I do need to change the bulbs or the set? Wc wise how much and how often ? Will water straight from the tap be harmful or do I have to age?

Since when I get that name?
Bulbs lose useful output after 6-9 months. Depending on usage.

Most people age water for WC.

    Re: Lighting for glosso

If it can be any useful I share my experience with glosso. I have a 4ft tank (1.5ft deep), 2 x 54 W t5 light, no Co2. I use weekly dosage of nutrients + excel, no water change.
At first my glosso started to die because I had extremely weak lighting, but since I replaced them with the above mentioned lights, glosso is doing pretty well. It has been 3 weeks now and I can already see new roots coming out.

Hi can share the current wattage?
    I upgraded from "36w pl x 2" to "39w t5 x 4" and it was awesome for my 3 feet

    Re: Lighting for glosso

Many thanks to all that replied! My glossos are starting to head down towards the soil!

    Day 5

    Lighting : 18w x 2 T8 1350lm each tube + 55 w pl light , photoperiod 6 hours currently

Started dosing Borneo wild Growth ( in hopes to suppress algae growth ) and essence k, 1 push daily

    Co2 injection : 1 bubble per 2 seconds

    Wc 50% every other day

Please comment on my current regime, would I be heading for an algae infestation at this rate?

    Re: Lighting for glosso

    My method of aging water
    100L drum
    Air pump
    And internal filter
    16 tiger barbs

Will usually use 50% for water change and top up the rest with tap water treated with anti chlorine into the drum to mix with the remainding aged water

Will I face any nitrate and ammonia problems with my aged water?

    Hi,

Not much experience with BW products. For me I would up the co2 to 2-3 bps. But have not mixed t8 and pl lights. Let's see what the others think.

Bb and plants should take care of that. Plus your WC regime is quite "kiasu". I like haha.

    Re: Lighting for glosso

    Hi,
Thanks for the prompt reply! Advisable to start dosing at such an early stage?
Yupp "kiasu" alittle cause my last project became a chemical waste tank (overdose fert and no water change = algae bloom = overdose algae control = project Hiroshima , not even the otos survived ;(

You can increase it to 8hrs if you like but if you do make user fert and CO2 increase accordingly

Not sure about Borneo wild Growth, never use it

I would suggest to increase CO2 to 2 bps

    Re: Lighting for glosso

Did my usual water change today and got a shock of my life , turned on the lights and see thousands and thousands of thin white worms in my water column, might be due to the DW I place in my aging drum, did a 90% water change straight from the tap as my aged water were all used up, added anti chlorine immediately, think my set up ain't gonna make it

Can any seniors please advise what the worms are and how to remove? Does tap water harm plants?
