lampchop rasbora
Gan always has a big tank full of them (must be couple of thousands in there), and they all look very good and vigorous, follow your finger around when you put it against the glass...----------------

Has anyone seen any harlequin in our lfs lately? I found a few in a lfs at Tiong Baru mkt, next to Ben's. But they don't look good to me. If u find some new stocks, please post here.

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

simon urs is known as r. hengelis or r. heteromorpha espei

Hi Simon, thanks for your info. I just got back from gan with the new harlequins. Also saw the 5ft planted tank in the aquarium supplies area, very nicely done up. Just curious, whats the name of the foreground grasslike plant? Is that E. tenellus?![]()
Hello, saw this at Clementi 328 for only 50c each.
The name is actually, glowlite rasbora.
But be warned, they seems to be quite fragile.
which one are you talking about?----------------

Gan sell Harlequin Rasbora at 50c each -- I think.
Why is Lampchop Rasbora less available and more expensive? I thought they come from the same regions?

Simon's picture shows a Hengel's rasbora (Rasbora hengeli), a close relative of the actual Harlequin (r. heteromorpha). The main difference is that the black triangle on the rear flank is narrower than the harlequins, and mature Harlequins have a pink-red sheen, while Hengelis are orangey. Hengelis come from Thailand and grow a little smaller than harlequins. I find they are rather more sensitive to water quality too, but well-maintained planted tank conditions should be fine.
An underappreciated fish, as are most rasboras.
Gan's harleys are quite good. Those I bought last October are now deep red and sparring actively (a good sign of health). Another good place is Lam Hong at AMK Ave 4. His harleys alsoi develop a very nice red colour. Those from some other sources seem to stay a dull olive-red.
simon, this lambchop looks like Rasbora Hengeli, right?

FLORENCE, capital of the region of Tuscany, has a population of around half a million inhabitants, spreads on the banks of the Arno, between the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian seas, almost in the middle of the Italian peninsula. It is a city which bustles with industry and craft, commerce and culture, art and science.
ooh
yes, the ones we see are hengeli, not espei
i didn't even know there were two subspecies
simon, for r. hengeli, try ben's. i bought mine from him a couple of months ago, when i went there to look at the golden neons but we both thought my betta may not be trusted...[]
guys, my r. hengeli seem to be hardier than my r. harlequin...![]()

this is hengeli
this is espei
notice the T. espei dun have the distinct gold strip
So the one that Gan is selling is the espei anot?
Guys, accoding to a German literature, there is also a fourth rosbora "Trigonostigima somphongsi" which has the thiniest black strip.
Gchoo, Gan is selling harlequins and the stock looks good although they have yet to turn into the stunning red colour that my older fishes are showing now.
IMO, they are Singapore's most beautiful native fish. If u are interested in this fantastic fish, u have to buy at least 8~10 (they are shoaling fish like cardinals). My advice is to create a heavily planted environment for them to live in.[]

the golden strip is much nicer compared to harlequins
