nice tank!![]()
That's a beauty.![]()
Can know the total number of fishes (estimated) you had inside the tank and the wattage of each lamp?
Where to find such lamps? Thinking of 'upgrading' my lighting.![]()
Hi clusterbx,
I have about 300+ fishes in the tank. Half cardinals, half rasboras. Quite a wierd mix of fishes, but cannot bear to give or sell either away.
Tank size 150cmx60cmx60cm. MH lights 4x70W. You can do a search on the archives regarding my DIY MH lights.
Cheers
Wei Cheng

Hi kingpin,
Can you recommend any place that is selling rasboras? Thanks!!!![]()
Hi foocp,
I reckon Ben at Tiong Bahru is a good place to buy fishes.

Vincent,
Looking good.
In keeping with the new guidelines of this forum, I've linked your previous threads about this tank. Unfortunately, the images for the first three updates are not there anymore, so I've omitted them.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
Thanks Vincent. I myself have lost track of all those links![]()

Just do a search with your nick as the author. To narrow down the search, choose a forum as well.

whoa kingpindidn't know you upgrade to MH, so now your tank is open top? can consider planting some BIG plant that will go emerse too, or let the lotus float and get flowers.
in line with my "purist" approach, get rid of either the rasbora or the tetras![]()

Like the layout! especially the red tiger.![]()
4x70 watts MH for a 5footer isn't considered alot. Usually it'll be 2x150watts or more.
Cheers!

Hi Choy,
Was looking at getting rid of one of the species, but dun know which to give up. Maybe set up another tank and transfer one species overThe MH was set up more than a year ago. The light given off by the MH bulbs have turned from daylight to slightly yellowish.
I would preferred the tank to be without the hood. The tank edges have to be covered by the hood, else it looks very ugly. Thought of getting another tank such as the bioplast one to replace the current tank. Any suggestions?

I don't know, Wei Cheng, what's wrong with your tank? Perhaps just retain the hood frame to cover the glass edge, the top part where you used to house the lights can be sawn off? Some flowering tiger lotus would be really great.
My tiger lotus recently had a spurt of growth, I'm considering letting it float to try for another flower.
pic of my power lotus…threatening to shade the E. rose, in between the submersed leaves (in front of the filter inlet) you can see a floating leaf breaking surface, it was only two inches tall this morning! All four submersed leaves sprouted within the last 2 weeks. It is now putting out 2 leaves every 3-4 days.

Wow Choy...What ferts did you give your lotus...they are huge..dun look like red lotus to me, more like the Siam Lotus (Is that what they called it?). My lotus never flowers, no matter how much ferts I dumped in.
I prefer the look of those tanks without hood and braces, very much like what dupla tanks look like. Without the hood, you can really see the floating plants and flowers. Simon's 6ft is a good example.

well I have been inserting Jaqno sticks all along, plus the occasional Dennerle Gold 7. In the last one month, after a very long spell of skinny wimpy growth, it suddenly pushed out 2 leaves per week, i.e. before the first one is fully opened, the second one has already emerged from the rosette, and the stalks are significantly thicker and the leaves are 7-8 inches across with stalks 12-15 inches long.
And I noticed the centre of the rosette is opening up (those that have witnessed a natural child delivery, this is similar in concept). So I decided to let the floating leaves stay, hoping for a flower. Wish me luck OK!?![]()
BTW this is the so called thin-leaved red tiger lotus. The one you have is the thick-leaved one. Mine has a rhizome, the growth point has purplish hair, and never produces plantlets. Yours produces lots of plantlets by runner, and have no rhizome.
The flower is deep pink with yellow centre.

Choy,
Your lotus looks like a Queen of Siam. Can you show a pic of the floating leaf?

vinz, it is a different plant from QoS. I had this guy for 2 years already, got it from Teo.
Remember we had a collection of waterlily photos in the old forum? I had pics of this guy along with someone else's QoS. The QoS has very fine patterns of red and orange, while this one has quite big mottles. The submersed leaf is very thin and easy breaks, whereas I was told the QoS leaves are quite thick and tough.
this is the QoS
this is my red tiger lotus - thin-leaved

I have 2 types of red tiger lily. The one in my 5ft has a rhizome. Got it from Ninjafly aka Raphael. The other in my 2ft produces many plantlets by runners but no rhizome. The lily with a rhizome produces smoother leaf texture, somewhat redder leaves too.
