why not change soil instead???
by the way....your 2 feet right now is a new setup with new soil???
Hi guys
I have a new 2 feet tank with a new packet of gex soil 8 kg in it. I heard from some seniors that gex soil red will not buffer for long. Since I am going to do a wc of 80% due to my high gh. My question is should I get another gex red and fill it up to 6-7 cm height to extend the buffer or mix gex with other lower Ph soil? Please advise. Thank you![]()

I suggest you check what PH you wish to obtain, as different soil buffer different PH values. Like ADA soil some are more acidic which buffers to 5.2~5.4. Others range from 6.4~7.4. If you wish to maintain low PH you can play with different soil to mix and get a desired PH value.
Try to fill soil to at least 4~5cm height for better buffering properties.
I'm resetting tank so I'm trying ADA 30% + mosura 70% to mix. Hopefully can get ard 6.2~6.4.
Bro to share my bad experience, previously I have very bad experience with GEX soil. Hence would still recommend go for the ADA new soil instead if u going to reset your tank
