not advisable to perform such a huge water change.
perform a 50% water change first. then every 2-3 days, perform a 50% water change until your tank is clear.

what do you have in your tank?
if you have no fishes, do a 80-90% water change.
you can also try to pack more fine wool pads into your filter.

Read somewhere else before that cloudiness disappears once all the sugar and etc food is used up and the yeast dies. One question though, is there any effect on the fishes, do they swim drunkenly?

Just stick with the frequent water changes and eventually everything will clear up and be ok. Just make sure they don't drive when they drink.

had a similar problem with my small tank. the whole tank smelled like alcohol, slimy stuff covered all plants, air formed under gravel, cloudy water... I had to remove everthing!!! (clean gravel and filter, manually rub off the slimy stuff from each plant! )

If you have fishes or livestocks in there, they will be deprive of oxygen, gasping for air.
Do more water changes and areate the tank using air stone.
