    Congrats bro!

whitish round eggs at 1mm. Easily spoted. Saw it a few times (beckfordi pencil )

The others have never seen them lay before.
    Cheers!

Golden pencil or Nannostomus Beckfordi ,

is relatively easy to breed therefore the most commonly found in LFS.
    Cheers!

Congrats! Quick question - do you keep them in an open-top tank, or are there glass covers over the setup?

    Thanks!

    PEncil Fish Gives Birth

I had my N. marginatus spawn previously also. But the sad thing is I never saw the eggs, I just found 1 (only 1) surviving pencilfish sometime later. It was probably 2 cm when I saw it, but very noticably smaller than the parents, so, have to be an offspring.

A sure sign that they are going to bred is that they would swim very closely side by side and keep nugging each other as they seek to find a good spawning site. Usually, they like my patch of hairgrass near a dark corner with a large piece of driftwood. Very interesting sight, the mating behaviour.

if you want to breed pencil fish, i find that peat helps a little. feed generously as well. they are big eaters in my opinion.

By the way, I do not find pencil fish jumpy, so do not think there's a need for a top cover.
