Ben , i feel a cabinet would look very nice for a 6ft.
IMPO a stand doesnt look very sightly esp so since its so big.
But the cost of the cabinet....will burn a big hole in your pocket
Hi,
hmm...now i have a 6footer at home thanks to all the people who helped me,(Simon,Nizz,Lawrence,my uncle, and my frend)
I've now got a problem which should i get as i've a budget constrait and i don't know which to get, a wooden cabinet or a metal stand.
cabinet: where should i get and how much roughly will it be. Will the metal stand take the weight of the tank.
Almost impossible to convince my mum to get the cabinet although i'm paying.
Guyz solution?
Thk ones again =)
Cheers!

Thats why..artvale not say want to get i can get...metal stand maybe i can use a nice cloth to cover the front with the center a slit for easy removal of things? how does that sound?
Cheers!

Ya thats what i also did previously for my 3ft metal stand
But of cos nothing beats the cabinet
But maybe you should consider if this 6ft is what you really want...if it is , and you wont upgrade to a bigger size then maybe the cabinet will be a one time worthwhile investment.
IN future should you change the tank , just do the glass tank , the cabinet still can use
bene,
what's if you spill water to the piece of cloth?
will have ugly patches after a while.
what about using a metal stand and diy some doors and walls out of wood?

Metal stand can stand the weight of your 6ft but not sure your floor will or not. If you're using the metal stand, the legs should have a big surface area. Personally, metal stand would really look unsightly even with a really nice cloth covering it. Cabinet would be a better choice but may cost $800~$1.2K depending on material.
if i had a choice for my 4ft tank when i got it, i'd have gotten a cabinet, no doubt about it
you have to bring your mom down to see the diff, really
she'll probably agree once she sees how much it blends in with the home decor as opposed to a metal stand
Yes, I am worried that if you get a metal stand, the floor cannot take it, a 6ft with water/gravel/rocks/fish would weigh about 1.2 tons. 1.2 tons would be about 2650 pounds. If the cross section of each leg is one square inch in area, each leg would have about 660psi of stress on the floor.
=( dangerous hmm...yes this will be my last big tank no larger then this i suppose =)
DEA: If my mum knows the pricing she will still go for the ugly one, what to do?
Law: Metal stand...hmm Simon told me crome stand ...
Cheers!

can, a metal stand can hold that kinda weight.. the supporting legs will be of coz bigger in diameter
off topic: an advise
dont try to transport a 6ft tank unless the lift is on the same level.. or else, prepare to sweat[] got bruises and cut to prove []

Why dun you go to those places like CR Aquarium that make the fish tanks and buy from them the stand there... that way dun have to worry whether can take the weight anot...
BTW... in the event that you decide not to go ahead with the 6 ft tank.... and would like to sell it or give it away.... I'm interested...
