It's a tadpole. Did some searching on Google and it seems to be the tadpole of the Malesian Frog, Limnonectes malesianus. The eggs must have come on the plants. You might want to raise these tadpoles in a separate tank with a land and water area, so you can identify the species after metamorphosis into miniature froglets, by which you can make a definitive ID.

I've never seen such a tapole with this kind of patterns on the body. May be an interesting frog

Alas, it may simply be a common field frog

Let the frog grow all its legs then release into a field nearby, they're harmless and helps to control mosquitos

These tadpoles are harmless. If you have a Malesian Frog tadpole, after it has metamorphosed into a froglet, release it in a forested area, preferably near a stream.

Ok thanks for the info. I was only worried it may affect my plants. Will observe for a few days and may release them in the wild once they become frogs

Make sure you take pics of the froglets, and if they're something else, or a smaller frog species, you can probably make a vivarium for it.

I know that there are several members in this forum that will be interested in keeping your frog. PM eddyplaner, he may want to keep this.

Interesting! Reminds me of my days collecting tadpoles from drains (which would have dried up eventually anyway), raising them at home. While the tadpoles grew well on the usual pellets intended for koi, feeding the tiny froglets and toadlets was no joke. I gave up trying to collect ants using a dish with honey (and they probably weren't very nutritious anyway), and subsequently released the newly-metamorphosed frogs and toads in the park near my house.

Re: Unknown fish grew on my planted tank

To find a drain that contains tadpoles these days is tough luck. There were little "longkangs" in the Hillview area that used to have a lot of tadpoles. No longer I think.

Re: Unknown fish grew on my planted tank

My tadpoles came from a drain that flowed between the soccer field of Anglican High School and the HDB blocks. That was more than 10 years ago, and I haven't gone back to see if that drain is still the same.

Alternatively, there are always those patches of wasteland where the toads and frogs spawn after the rain, and the tadpoles are doomed to develop in puddles that quickly dry up. I always found it a bit gruesome to visit a puddle and see nothing but moist soil and black masses attracting ants and flies. Sigh.

Re: Unknown fish grew on my planted tank

A huge field across my block always has toads croaking after a heavy downpour. But like you said, the spawn will not survive the following day's sun.
