Hi guys! I need some help on this product, do share relevant experience with this product, I got these ferts quite a couple of years back but never really used it, just found and inserted 3 balls into my 2 feet tank, personally I feel that the balls are alittle too large and require some sort of skill to sink it into the soil , and a crater would be formed, any experience? Good or bad reviews on this product? Will it cause an algae bloom if the nutrients were to leak from the soil to the water column?
Is it possible and advisable to DIY the JBL 7 balls into liquid fert via addition of water?
It will have to be pushed inside the substrate.
This product is used in similar fashion to root monster which will slowly loosen when in contact with water.
Just push it near plant roots inside the substrate then cover the clayball crater.
i don't have hands on with this product, but for root monster it's yellow and annoying when it's not burried below substrate level.

I have one of these 7 balls in my tank, and it does not lose the spherical ball shape under water, even when pressed into the substrate. Given the size, I think using root monsters or other types of fert sticks may be better.

I have it too! my tank is choked with plants : ) do not worry about algae boom. and no need skill to insert the ball ball into substrate instead you need brute force!!

colin, are they easy to take out? in the sense want to rescape root monsters become yellow balls, quite the eyesore.

I have not try to take it out. So don't really know how eyesore it is..

Just saw this post.. I've just pressed (forcefully) a couple of these jbl balls into my soil a couple of days ago as my foreground plants don't look very healthy now. Yup created a few craters as usual, I'd have normally just left them, they won't be visible when your plants spread out. but this time, I actually topped up the craters with left over soil which I've kept for 'maintenance' purposes. At least I think these fert balls are of similar colour to soil, used azoo fert ball before and they show up red when shrimps dig some bits up.
By the way, how long would they last before we need to refertilise the plant roots? 3 months? 6 months?
The JBL 7balls do disintegrate over time into light brown power , quite an eye sore for me

I took these balls out. The balls dont lose its spherical shape. However, if you pinch it too hard, it breaks apart. Beige or light brown clouds as mentioned.

Well, when first bought, I pressed it and it was still hard.
After a month of being in the substrate and then removing them; I held it too tightly among soil I had and it broke into pieces.
When I first wanted to see it, using a pinsette, I took it out. It left a milky biege in the water. Oh ya, it has a little stink to it too.

Ermm its supposed to be buried deep in the sand, why would you still be seeing it disintegrate?

If the tank does not have scrapping and stays the same design for very very long you will not see.
Else if you do a rescape let's say after 6 months to 1 year later how?
