Take that monster out and kill it!!! Because it will make a quick and easy meal out of your shrimps.by the way did you just introduce new plants in your tank? Or maybe you are super duper unlucky dragonfly in your tank![]()
I myself encounter many times....but not on damesfly nor dragonfly...
Mine is Mayfly...
1st encounter = Kan Cheong Spider
2nd encounter = Slowly catch
3rd encounter = realise that they are Harmless to shrimps
They in fact feed on algae.....
As for T.S photo...that piece will be threat to your previous shrimps...
Your shrimps will be laying on the buffet table ready to be serve if no action is taken.
There should be more then a piece...
Comb the entire area...after removing all shrimps....
Best is bare tank...
Soak your driftwood/Bogwood/stone/decorative in hot boiling water...as they might be hiding in one of those tiny winny holes...
They are tough little creature!!!
I spending hours staring and combing...till wee hours...
Wife came out saying "Wah koaz...son kana mosquito bite I not Kan Cheong....shrimp haven kana bite...spend hours protecting the shrimps...![]()

cant afford to take out the driftwood out of my tank, gonna mess up my tank,so far caught 3 liao, these few days ,stare at the tank at least for 3hours looking for anymore
of that, end up kana scold by wife.
found a fourth one in my tank today.
@Paladin, it is possible, but Panda Cory are somewhat sensitive, especially young ones, so it could be other reasons. Rearing the nymph in a separate container is best if you want to learn more about their life cycle. They are not required for a tank eco-system since they are predatory, but more as a side project if you're keen on seeing how they eventually turn into adult damselflies.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
Depends on the size; how big was the panda cory compared to the damselfly nymph? The nymphs in my tank didn't bother the gobies and guppies, although they were around the same size. And if the nymph had tried to kill and eat the panda cory, I think the cory would have looked quite mangled. See this video, which shows a damselfly nymph eating a tiny fish - a messy affair.
As for any benefits to the aquarium ecosystem, none at all. The damselfly nymph is a predator, and so most would consider it a pest as it might prey on shrimps or very small fishes.
Thanks Stormhawk & Pseudogobiopsis!
I am not sure if the damselfly kills my panda cory cos the cory's tail got a bite mark. Whole body still ok. Chances of the cory being killed by other fishes is very low because i got 5 penguin tetra, 1 normal pleco and 4 other panda cory in the same tank. Penguin tetra are surface dwellers and cory are bottom dwellers. So they seldom meet leh... and the pleco only minds his own business.
Hmm... if its really the damselfly, then i have to do something already.
And i've seen that video, looks very cruel. Haha...
Update, just caught a 5th one just now. God do not know how many more inside.![]()
Bro best is to reset your tank.
Wow....it's a good idea....
Would like to see the life cycle of these pest.....
Err...anyone have dragonfly nymph?
Please give me..or anyone knows if there is any place that sell them?
I don't think there are any places that sell dragonfly and damselfly nymphs. I think the easiest way to obtain one is to collect from a pond or stream/drain, especially one that has plenty of emersed vegetation or leaf litter. Stir up the bottom sediment, grab a clump, and slowly sift through. You are probably bound to find a dragonfly or damselfly nymph, along with many other aquatic animals such as snails and even tubifex and bloodworms (these 2 are especially abundant in urban canals).
maybe can try the new bishan park.
Oh yes, I think Bishan Park is the only "natural" waterway that encourages people to enter the water. I wonder if people have started fishing there yet.
Small is beautiful.
Ya there because there just renovated.last time I when cpoing with my mum we caught a bucket full but I release them back now. But during renovation the water became inhabitable. So we should give more time for the pond to "recover then we go catch agian
Actually no. But at least I put back and that is a very long time ago![]()
