Your super low pH is causing problems to the plants.. Because of that the algae is starting to take over..

Most aquascapists here will try to keep their pH above 6.0 for fear of algae too... Plants do have pH requirements just like lifestock! Most wont survive such low pH... I believe most plants found in such low pH are rotting leaves hehe..

I don't think low ph is the cause of this algae bloom. It could be the extra nutrients from your soil.

    Bro, long time no see.

Plants prefers slightly alkaline pH if I recalled correctly, so such low pH may be the reason.
Maybe you can post a full tank shot? I would like to see what other plants you have

    Yikes bro.
Mosses are too slow growing to compete with algaes and will definitely be overrun by all manners of algae in time.
I would suggest that you add some fast growing plants like hornworts and floaters to compete with the algae.

From the looks of the FTS, this tank is already in pretty advanced stage of "algaeration"

possible that the new soil are releasing much more nutrients than your previous soil ?

In that case, I'll point to a lack of fast growing plant life bro.

Algae counted as plant? agree that root cause should be pointed..
perhaps you might have had similar issues previously on t he old soil? If only moss, then the lighting also could have played at part during the initial stage to bring things out of balance fast since no fast growing plants like hortwort.

Re: my algae are healthier than my plants

    conclusion
    1. ph too low causing plants to die
    2. new soil leech nutrients
    3. no fast growing plants to absorb the nutrients

hope i will not make the same mistake again
by the way does these algae absorb no3?

    thanks

    Algae also take in nitrates.
But note that its impossible to fight algae by restricting nutrients, unless you totally don't grow any other plants.
In fact in a healthy EI method planted tank, the nutrient levels are always in excess

Now I don't rear shrimps, but just giving some of my thoughts.

Soil, Light, Water flow, too little vegetation, feeding, PH. Why not visit Green Chapter? Look at the set-up there, ask for advise if you are in doubt?
Water flow consist of placement and the actual filter itself, flow rate.

NO3 near zero is not a good news, it will only harm your plants. Algae will still grow even when your Nitrate test kit show zero.
