Yes need to clean, you can use brush to clean it. You might also want to clean the co2 area. You can use h2o2 for that

Re: UP Inline Diffuser: Need to Clean?

Wow I haven't cleaned mine since I bought it about 6 months ago. Thanks for the information.

But the required frequency of cleaning is much lower than your typical ceramic CO2 glass diffuser right?

Re: UP Inline Diffuser: Need to Clean?

yeah no need to clean that often. Actually, I'm really sure how dirty it was because I can't see the inner wall, but my guess would be the same as the hose. So I clean it together when the hose look dirty.

CO2 diffuser will have green spot algae which is more difficult to clean. In line diffuser will have those brown thing, the same as the one on hose wall. It can be clean easily using brush.

The tough part is the CO2 camber, not sure whether it need to be clean or not but I normally inject a bit of H2O2.

Re: UP Inline Diffuser: Need to Clean?

I took out and clean using those spring brush but my advice is change a new one after maybe around 9 month? At first I washed it because it came out huge bubble, after washing the mist performed well again but some week later the big bubble occurred again. So I gave up and bought a new one. I guess the conclusion is that when we wash the interior using brush, we are actually pushing the dirt into the fine chamber though.

Re: UP Inline Diffuser: Need to Clean?

Well I cleaned mine a few days ago. But I'm still having the problem of gas build up in my filter. The filter will start to burp bubbles 4 hours into the CO2 injection period and if I shake my filter, a lot of gas buildup is evident. I think I will change to the good old ceramic diffuser to see if things improve... perhaps the inline diffuser is working too well if there is such a thing.

where you place the inline, inflow? the bubbles exiting the inline diffuser maybe too big & don't dissolve.
maybe buying a new one is a better idea..

Re: UP Inline Diffuser: Need to Clean?

Nope, I placed it on the outflow. I do notice that the whole tank is filled with tiny bubbles, which is supposedly good because that means the CO2 is spread all over the place but I supposed the bubbles get sucked into the filter and lead to buildup at the end of the day. I think I have to try reducing my CO2 output.

I have the whole tank filled with bubbles too. But my canister never burp. But got some gas buildup, I assumed its due to my skimmer.

I really itching to buy prefilter, as a holding area for co2 like I did before. But there is a bug drawback. After photoperiod alway will accumulate there plus it slows down water flow.

I tried using a prefilter before while using a diffuser.
Somehow, the gas buildup in there causes it to leak after while, probably due to the frequent pressure changes or maybe its just cheapo.

Well I didn't had that problem. But the gas buildup never really cleared at all.
Was using atman cf800, shiruba prefilter and ista inline. Itching to do it again on next rescape.
