U can keep otos and maybe some shrimps. But do note that the cpo will try (and hopefully fail) to catch them.

my CPO once catch a CRS of mine and nimbble it's tail off.
ouch!
Anyone tried keeping with fishes like cories? as they're all bottom feeders.. chances of them meeting will be high.. unlike fishes like Otos or guppies which swim about..
intend to keep a pair of CPO, 2 x Yamato, 2 x Oto.. because CPOs like to hide..and i like to see more livestocks in the tank.. so i'm not sure if i can put in cories.. i'm scared CPO will attack the cories or cories will attack the CPO babies(if i happened to breed them)..![]()

Well, I have 2 SAEs and 2 other small fishes that I do not know the names, together with some cherries with my CPO. So far so good for me I guess. Mine is a small 1 ft tank with BW and moss and rocks that they can hide.
not too sure where to post this but is it safe to keep apistos with CPO?
With us CPOs catched and killed a whole shrimp society, amphipods, Guppys and Catfish, snails and mussels… If You get an aggressive kind of CPO there is nothing that is safe from them. You MAY be lucky and get some that are not that aggressive…
Cheerio, BEASTIE ;-)
CRABS, Crayfish, Shrimp, Land hermits, Mussels & Snails, Dragons, Snakes and more in some 40 tanks
hahah we had one in my dad's blood red arowana. constantly guarding against the arowana. hmmm, as long as the fishes are quick enough, the chances of them ending up as a meal's really low. my pal's apisto got caught. went in half i think.
don't see alot of people discussing about CPOs lately..
but most LFS are selling them.. did the trend died?
so i wonder is it safe to have Otos in the same tank..?
i don't think anything would be safe from their claws.. haha..
will they attack snails also?![]()

If you do that, the larger Cherax will probably kill your CPO. All Crayfish species are territorial IIRC, so it is unwise to add your CPO in a tank with larger Crays. They will fight for food and territory, so usually the smaller one will not survive long in an extended fight.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
Still contemplating... as my cherax pair has been pretty docile and they don't even fight between themselves... mostly staying in their tunnels... In the event I combine both species, they would have ample hiding places...
i think it would be absolute disaster to put CPOs and red bricks together. your red bricks dont fight with each other because they are the same species and are about the same size. in a case when one crayfish is much smaller than the other, the smaller crayfish will getby the larger one.
Well one species will try to dominate the other. In this case the larger Cherax will easily defeat and probably kill the CPO, even if you have enough hiding space. You cannot stop them from meeting within the confines of a fish tank. So instead of inviting disaster, might as well don't start.
Alternative method, you can keep both crayfish species in 1 tank, but partition and ensure that neither species can cross into either partition. Saves you space, and allows you to keep 2 crayfish species in 1 tank with zero risk.

Guess I am just trying to dream of them living one happy community... Onwards with other ideas then....![]()
As the chinese saying goes 一山不容二虎。 two tigers cannot live together on the same mountain.![]()
Though this thread was started 2 years ago, I just got my CPO on last Saturday. Haha. Currently only a pair of CPO & 1 oto staying together in a nano tank.
I've got myself a very aggressive male. Even when I look at them with my face near the tank, he will raise his claws and march towards the glass fencing with me. Cute fella, I move and he move.
Sad thing is I've got a shy female, she doesn't let the male touch her. Guess it'll take a long long time to have a pregnant CPO.
