    hi all,
im new in marine aquarium, i would like you guys to enlighten me regarding live rock.
    1) if i set up a newly marine tank, which type of LR should i choose? cured type or uncured type?

    2) how to distiguish cured or uncured LR?

3)is it true that cured LR will slightly shorten the cycling of the newly established tank? can i add in beneficial bacteria solution to speed up the maturing of water?( the BB state for fresh and salt water use)

I think the most impt thing here is to get your tank mature up gradually and not be hasty in rushing into this hobby.. if your tank has not started, i.e, no salt water was running with some form of live bacteria to start to kick off the nitrogen cycle, even if u use cured live rocks, they will die on u..

personally, i matured my tank after 4-6 weeks and then i started to add LR after that... by then, i can confidently put in uncured live rocks without worries.. mind u, cured live rocks are more expensive due to the holding cost by the LFS... and can also die on u... it happened to me before coz me too anxious to start my tank...

Cure LR are usually rocks that had been "cleaned" and leaving only coralline and calcarous algae and usually freed from critters..

If i were u, i would not use any of those beneficial bacteria thingie... i dun believe that bacteria can survive in bottles for weeks without dying... i prefer to let nature takes it own course.., i.e, run the water in the tank, put a piece of prawn or sotong inside to kick off the bacteria... if u do everything right.. u will experience that your livestock wun die on u unless u screwed up.. patience is the name of the game when starting off.. after that, it is money.. coz if u can afford, u get the more nicer species of corals and fishes lor..

but that is another story altogether...
