Hi!
I just started because I saw some marimo balls and fell in love with them.
then I found some, decided to grow some, and put some shrimps in (people kept saying how these two complement each other)
They were happy, some baby shrimp hatched as well, then they were all dead the next day. (amano shrimps). :C
So i'm just growing the balls in my tank (with marine soil) for a week or so for the nitrate levels to stablize before buying shrimps from clementi again.
Any tips on what shrimps to complement marimo balls?

nope.. I bought some at clementi 328 - called advanced soil. The rest of the wording is in japanese, but the owner (crowded shop) said it was low pH and good for freshwater marine plants..
I think this is a little misleading to say 'freshwater marine plants'.... It's only 1 of the latter, either freshwater or marine.. But what marine plants?? Haha.. Seaweed?Originally Posted by tanclancy

No worries.. Anyway, what would you like to ID? Feel free to ask.. If not just search for the relevant topic through AQ.. Might be good that you read their the stickies and past threads to learn more.. Google works wonders too..

First off, welcome to AQ.
The Advanced Soil product is known for pushing the pH down to around 5, or at least one person in the past was using this and got less than desired results. pH and N stickers are not sufficient. You need a proper set of test kits, which will go a long way in helping you in this hobby, especially if you intend to keep shrimps. When you are buying things from C328, or any LFS, I'd advise you to do research beforehand so you know what you're getting.

The reason why your Amano Shrimp larvae did not survive is because they require brackish water to fully develop. In any event, if you intend to keep shrimps, there are several things to take note of, and I'd advise you to read the Invertebrates forums for some valuable information.

Hey all! Thanks for the many welcomes and much advice! One little question though- I find the pump noisy so I turn it off at night when I sleep. Then back on in the morning... Advisable? Or is 24/7 the way to go, Especially for small tanks where changes can be quite drastic?

What pump do you mean? Its not good to switch it off for long period of time if it's your only form of biofiltration
