Since someone recommended this as a cheap and not bad test kit, I assume there should be people using the above products.

I have some queries regarding the KH test kit.
According to the directions for use..

" 3. Add Carbonate Hardness Test Solution, one drop at a time, holding dropper bottle upside down in a completely vertical position to assure uniformity of drops. After first drop is added, solution will turn blue. If the water sample contains only 1°dKH, the solution will turn from clear to its yellow endpoint after the first drop is added. "

Can I confirm that there isn't any color reference card with the test kit? So for people who are using this test kit, does the solution really turn blue after the first drop? I am asking coz mine turn very pale yellow. So am I right to say, if you're using aquapharm KH test kit and suppose your KH is 4 degree, then what you should see is blue-blue-blue-yellow?

I already have my baking soda standing by.

there is no colour reference card.

what you are saying is correct.

if you did not add any baking soda or your tank does not have any carbonate buffer, you'll most likely get pale yellow after the first drop.

you can test by adding a little baking soda to a some water and dose a single drop of the kh tester.

I use the same kit. You are likely to have 1°dKH or less.

For more than 1°dKH, you should see blue colour first.

    BC,

have you compared readings between ap and sera kh test kits?
would age of test kits play a part?
comparing results between my year old sera with my new ap kh test kit, I get 1dkh higher when ap test kit is used. so what your comments?

Thanks for the prompt replies. A follow up question.

I got my baking soda (not baking powder as cautioned) but it is labelled sodium bicarbonate potash, can I use that?

Also how should I go about adding the baking soda? Must I increase the KH gradually as in maybe add sodium bicarbonate solution every few hours or it doesn't matter, I can juz stir the 2.5 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate into 1 tub of water and add one shot? Thanks for any advice.

c328 has all the aquarium pharmaceuticals test kits

    KH & GH
    PH
    Ammonia
    NO2
    NO3
    --

I like them alot since they are only 1 or 2 liquid reagent only.

NO3 = 2 reagent, as compared to all the 4 x reagents required by most other brands.

not sure you meant the aquarium pharmceuticals brand since that's the only no3 test kit I know with only TWO liquid reagents.
