did you add anti-chlorine/chloramine? temperature of water is ok? maybe add a little salt and stop feeding for 2 days and observe

10 gallon tank, had fish 3 months. Have 3 guppies, 3 albino coreys, gravel substrate, 2 live plants, filter & heater. All water quality perfect. I had a fourth guppy that died yeste in cornerrday. Had hovered in corner, not eating, tail fluttering fast. No obvious signs of disease. Did 25% water change day before. Fish dead by afternoon. Today, all guppies acting like the one that died, and ask coreys not moving. Did 50% water change, all
water qual. still good (pH 7.6, ammonia 0, nitrites & nitrates 0, temp 78°). I am at a complete loss as to what to do. ANY help is appreciated. I'm running out of time !!

Also, what is the filter used?
If it is the hang-on type external filter, make sure you ensure the water level is up to the 'lip' of the water outlet. The aim is that water coming out from the filter must be pushing the WATER SURFACE strongly to the rest of the tank's water surface, not just falling into the water at one spot. There should not be bubbles on the water surface but a nice clean water surface, ie no surface.
This, together with possible water contamination are the first things you should be checking and remedied. But sad to say, if fish have reached an advanced stage of illness due to unfavourable conditions, there's little else one can do.

by up to the lip do you mean covering where the water stream is coming out? that would be almost the very top of my tank....

just added water up to the lip like you said. Um, let me just say you are a lifesaver! I don't know what I was thinking before. fish have a immediately responded and seem very very happy!!!!! not to mention my tank looks a lot prettier without all the water splashing on the sides. I cannot thank you enough. I'll re post tomorrow to let you know if they're still just as happy!

Your Nitrate reading of 0 is not a good sign. An established aquarium should have atleast 10-20ppm Nitrate level of beneficial bacteria. This reading means your nitrogen cycle is not complete and your tank needs further cycling (maybe another 2 weeks)
Also, before you change/add water into your tank, you should let the water sit in an open lid bucket for atleast 24 hours. I always make sure to do this because it helps evaporate unwanted gases such as chlorine and ammonia. Never add tap water straight into the tank even using anti chlorine and make sure no tap water enters your tank! Never clean your filter or tank ornament with tap water. Always rinse using your water from your tank in a seperate bucket (easy to do when you're changing water). This helps retain the beneficial bacteria in your tank.
Another point, when you change or add water make sure the bucket is placed in the same room as your tank for altleast an hour, so that there is virtually no difference in water temperate. And once you start to add water dont just dump the bucket into the tank, use a siphon instead to slowly add water.
Hope this helps you the next time. Best of luck!

Another thing you might want to look into is your water quality out of the tap. Parts of the US literally have "liquid rock", which is basically highly mineralized ground water. This is also the reason why some aquarists in the US rely on re-mineralized RO/DI water. If you know exactly what is in your tap water, you can fix the issue at hand. Hard alkaline water may be okay for humans, but not for all fish.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.

Wow, more awesome help. I wasn't doing any of this the right way, and here I thought I'd really done my homework! I will absolutely do everything you said. Even if it's too late for some of my fish this time (hopefully not!), I won't quit. I was really ready to give up on fish all together. Now, I feel like I may figure this all out, yet! Thank you for your great advice!

Don't forget to stir the gravel during your regular water change. Detritus trapped overtime could result in crashing of water paramater.![]()

It's a full on fish party in that tank today! I'm so grateful (and so are they!)![]()

Well, you can consider it to be 'magic' if you like, lol.![]()

Eh lol weird i was supposed to quote the part abt water level must touch the lip of filter

If you love your fish, and want your fish to love you, always ensure the 'lip' of the filter outlet is submerged under water, not remain above it.
You may think the fish is not getting enough oxygen, but I assure you they are.![]()
