I have self made some pig heart ( cannot find beef heart in the market ) for my Discus. But every time after feeding, the water is very cloudy and it take about 2 to 3 days to let the water clear again through my pump sump filtration system. It's there any other faster method to make the water clear after pig heart feeding. I do 10 % WC 2 times a week, Discus and crayfish are healthy and active.

I have been keeping discus for almost 10 yrs..from what I know, discus thrive in clean water and sump tank is not suitable for discus rearing.

Somemore you feed PH, bits of PH will get stuck in the sump causing builtup of bacteria in the water.

I suggest if you want to keep discus alone, you just need a sponge filter and do 100% WC after feeding PH.

If you intend to feed your fish with pig heart or beef heart, place a wad of fine filter wool as a "pre-filter" at the drainage part of the overflow where it enters your sump. This is to trap any loose large particles from the animal heart you are using. Remove the filter wool about an hour after the fish have fully eaten the PH/BH, and do a water change if necessary because high protein foods like animal heart will mean larger poop from the discus and by itself will affect the water quality since these type of meat rots quickly. It is also crucial that you increase your bio filtration capacity in the sump especially if you intend to do this on a regular basis.

Water change of 10% 2 times a week is very very low. The best filtration system is sponge filter coupled with daily water change.

Re: Filtration for Pig Heart Feeding

If someone can devise a contraption whereby fish can enter an isolated 'banquet room' within the tank to indulge in pleasurable and nutitrious cuisine, it will definitely be in good demand. The fish would only need to be in this compartment during their meal, which should last just a few minutes, after which it or the water inside it is removed and the water discarded.
LIFE IS UNBEARABLE WITHOUT A FISH TANK!!!
