Shawn, I saw a couple of Hiblows at Pmart but did not enquire about the pricing. If you're looking for tech info or specs, try here. IIRC, I saw a Dongyang too.

BTW, anyone knows who's the local agent or tech centre for Hiblow? I'm looking for diaphram replacement for my oldish Hiblow 40GJL-F. TIA.

Shawn, my Hiblow has been doing duty on and off for the past 10~13 years and that says alot as to how I feel about it, albeit somewhat expensive even during the late 80's.

It was serviced once with a shop at People's Park (half a shop sells lotsa Eheims while the other half was something like an optical shop) and unfortunately, it isn't around anymore.

The diaphram was replaced for around $60, I think, and for a few years it was in the store room when I cut back from the hobby and didn't require such a hefty air output. Then again, those small pumps don't last either.

I can't comment much on the newer Hiblows but one feedback I received recently was that durability is an issue. This could have been a one-off on QC, so don't let this comment cloud your judgement.

BTW, anyone know if Dongyang pumps compare well with Hiblow, and are they linear as well?

    Regards,
    Ronnie Lee

    Dongyang pumps

    Hi RonWill,
Thanks for the info.... yep agree back then, things then to last longer than now ....

I just got a new Dongyang 40, yet to be used. not too sure abt linear thing, but can check it if U can tell me where to look for it... Was thinking of changing to a Dongyang 20 or HiBlow 20. So am looking around.

    Thanks.....

    Re: Dongyang pumps

Shawn, why would you be stepping down to a DY20 when you already bought the DY40? Is the output too much or ... ?

One thing about these beefy pumps is NOT to restrict their output with too little outlets and it's advisable to 'bleed' off the excess, so that the diaphrams last longer because they don't have to work against the back pressure. It can be quite a noisy 'ssssssssssss' with the 'bleed line' but if you stick a airstone to it, the noise is minimized.

May I know how much the DY40 went for? PM me if you think it's inappropriate to post prices here. Thanks.

    Regards,
    Ronnie Lee
