    Hi

I noticed that plants are growing vertically up and bend toward light which is in the centre of the tank. I am currently using 18W PL for 7 gallons with stock light fixture those that build in to tank cover. I am using those normal Boyu tank with cover

Does this indicates insufficient wattage or uneven light distribution?

    Thank you

    Tank dimension: 34cm (L) x 30cm(W) x 30cm (H)

18W CF light is in the middle accross the full length.

Please find photo plants below. Thank you

I would say still too early to tell. At this point I consider it as normal because you plant it in between glass and rock.

What about the centre stem plant behind the drift wood? I am not referring to the cabomba. Thank you

So it means that it's poor distribution? If I plan to get additional light it would be 2X of 18 W for front and back. Will that be too much for my tank? If so what should be ideal total wattage ? Thank you

Re: Not enough light or poor light distribution

yes there is 2 possibilities, either it reaching the center light or it reaching the light outside the tank. It happen if your tank near the window for example. 2x18W may or may not be too much for your tank, it depend whether you inject CO2 and fertilizer or not.

My suggestion, if this your first planted tank, there better off not adding any light. More light, more difficult to control algae.

Re: Not enough light or poor light distribution

Yes. U injecting Co2 and dosing with lushgro aqua, K2PO4 and micro. But feel that my carpet grass is not growing well though. they are not spreading well and is getting thin and lengthy.

I might change my carpet to glosso. Is it possible with the existing setup?

    Thank you

From the other post, your tank start at 27 feb. It is only 2.5 weeks, you probably wont see much yet. What grass do you use on the foreground? Cant really see from the photo and you seem to trim the tip.

Sure you can change it to glosso but glosso need more light. What soil did you use?

Do note that the normal HELP soil does not contain any nitrate. Not sure about the HELP plant soil though.

There's no nitrate as what shadow mentioned. If there's no nitrate then how can we fully cycle the tank? Just run tank with soil for a few weeks without measuring because simply you won't measure out anything. On top of it, the article stated that it will keep PH at mild acidic but my previous tank with HELP advanced soil was 7.4 and after putting all kinda PH lowering stuff, the PH turned to 7.2. Amazing how they managed to state "acidic PH" when it's constantly keeping the PH at >PH7 ....

Re: Not enough light or poor light distribution

    Thanks for the information.

If the fertiliser I am dosing contains nitrate, will this issue be solved? For pH, since I am using CO2 does is means that the water will be more acidic and pH will drop automatically?

So far I have done nitrite check and it's near 0ppm which is inlune wirh your statement and my drop checker turns light green.

I hope my clarification does not offend you. I am trying to see if my tank is in the right condition. It's quite late to change now but definitely good information for my 2nd tank in the future.

    Thanks again for sharing
