    Hi All,

I've gotten this as inka quite some time back; but it looks very different in terms of body pattern and color compared to a pair I have in another tank. This big guy is very aggressive and after the "female" that came with it has passed-away, I've not been able to find a replacement that can live long enough. Please help ID if you can. Thanks.

It looks like an Apisto baenschi aka inka to me. Nijssenni doesn't have the spikey dorsal.

No signs of abnormality. It is very active and responsive and have good appetite. Not sure about why this color but it has always been of this tone, which is why I find it different from another pair I have.

Could you let us know if this is bred or wild caught? I've recently heard of hybrids of rositae and inka being sold in thailand.

Perhaps you could post on apistogramma.com. Mike Wise is one of the best when it comes to apistos.

    Apistogramma sp. "zwilling"?

I don't think the dull colouration of this particular fish is due to species. IMHO, its the coloration of a stressed apisto or maybe inbred if its a bred fish, or perhaps the pH is not low enough.

I heard about it. pH not lowered will result in blackened fish. I think ex-inka king, juilian75 told me.

It was bought from a forumer here but I did not asked if it was wild caught or farm breed. I suspect more like farm breed.

I like this nice stout looking fish nonetheless It has orange and yellow tone at the tips with thick red tail band. I'm contemplating on switching it to my 4Ft tank for it to roam a bigger area
