Recently i've added in 30+ copella bought from a fish shop. Usually my practise will be to qurentine the fishes for at lease a week before adding it into the main tank.

This time round, i added the copella straight from the bag with the floating method done .

On the second day. I saw fishes starting to drop one by one like rain falling.. the bioload in my tank is pretty heavy . Tank size will be 40gallons powered by one 2026 and a hang on filter thats for 20g. Filter medium are change 6months before to higher grade type.

Infecting my other fishes with white spots and fungus . I did not add treatment, medication nor run to get an UV unit. Till date after a week, my bioload seems very low due to the infected fishes dropping one by one.

Money gone here isn't the issue but losing rare fishes is. So i hope everyone will learn their lesson in a way or two to Q your fishes before adding straight into your tank. I know that many members here do not Q their fishes before placing them into the main tank due to lack of space and tank.

    My 2cts worth.
    Cheers!

I wonder how many ppl actually pours the bag water into the tank. Of course the fishes themselves might carrying the pathogens, but not mixing the bag water into the tank is a good thing to practice even if you don't practice quarantine.

When i doubt the health of the fish (in terms of carrying white spot, fungus or other undetected illness), i will put them in a slightly salted pail of water for 1-3 days before putting them in the main tank.

Otherwise, when i am lazy, i will just net the fish from the bag and put them into the tank after some acclimatisation.

Thanks for the great advice, I personally float bag then scoop fish up with my hands real quick. I also add some tank water to bag to acclimatize fish better. But on some occasion I have lost juvenile to new fish being introduced. So QT is an important step in keeping your fishes healthy.

I never pour any water from the bag to the main tank. When the fishes are infected internally or externally, it'll some how or rather affect the fishes in the main tank.

Most importantly is to get fishes from a good source and the fishes must never be reach the place a day or two before you got it. When i got the copella they are healthy batch but who knows...

One mistake and all your other fishes are in serious trouble due to the bacteria spreading in your tank.

Maybe i should not buy fishes too often which i cannot control . :P

Till date fishes are still infected and dropping over night. Before the light is switch off, i'll scope out all infected fishes , before the light turns on in the morning fishes are found floating already. It's very fast the fishes drop too fast to even cure them. I guess now i'll wait till the dropping stops...or maybe it doesn't.
    Cheers!

quarantining fish for a few days doesn't really work
gan does it for 2 wks before selling them to the public

    case in point
ichythosporistius multifilis (ich) doesn't die in salt immediately
if the spots don't drop, all the salt in the world won't kill the ich without killing the fish first

basically when i buy fish i take my chances
