My 60 cm aquarium tank glass is stained with brownish substance. I tried rubbing it off with filter material and it remains very stubborn. Ever since, the entire glass has been speckled by these brownish spots all over.
Advise is very much needed. Do I need to throw away the whole tank?

try adding oto and yamato shrimp they're very hardworking in eating the algae.
Thanks for the great advice. I was wondering what are those brown spots for the past 3 days.
I have 5 SAEs in the tank and around 20 cardinal and neon tetras, yet the diatoms bloomed. Probably I overfed. Will down the feeding to once per 2 days.
Should I still get Otos? Can the SAE do the trick if I cease feeding for a couple of days?
hmm, for me i wouldn't get SAE because when they grow up they'll compete the fish food with your fish instead of doing their "work" and they grow big too. as for now, are your SAE doing their job? competing food with your fish? i've great experience with oto, they did a great job in clearing away those brown algae.
SAE will prefer fish food to algae and will eat less algae and wait for fish food.
This guys ain't stupid![]()

From the video, you have a case of GSA, Green Spot Algae. The use of Nerite snails will help. I just scrape it off with a plastic card. An expired credit card or some other hard plastic card is perfect for this. See this blog on algaes if you need more info:

Update Update
I scrapped the ugly diatoms off and those OTOs went on a frenzy hunt for those bits of diatoms.
SAEs are totally useless. At first, it was the biggest one which went after the fish food. Now, all 5 go for the fish food. My poor tetras!
Yup, concise information on the cause and remedy for each type of algae we commonly get.
