Isn't it easier to set a airpump on timer?
I was thinking that at nite, I could channel the filter outlet to disturb the water surface for more o2, but it's too troublesome to always stick my hand in the water to change the rainbar to point upwards. so was thinking of installing a 2 way valve outside the tank, to channel the filter output into either the usual setup for daytime co2 input (eg reactor) or nitetime setup to disturb water surface. anybody have any suggestion on where to get such 2 way valves?

LOL CK , you wet blanket you []
Hee hee, I didn't mean to brust hoppinghippo's bubble.[]
but got another idea: maybe a small powerhead on timer if you dun like the splashing from the bubbles or the sound of the air pump. Automatic somemore.
well cost could be a factor here..
small powerhead let say $20 + timer $20 = $40...
a valve.. = max $2..
savings = $38... = 2 x $19 2ft tank..

kelstorm, u suddenly so calculative![]()

all this are opportunity costs leh..

There is no need to "disturb" the water surface at night if your fish is doing fine.
The O2 produced during the day will last them thru the night..
If I am not wrong, think the surface movement is to drive out CO2 instead of dissolving O2.
my fishes are gasping in the morning so hence my need to do something. and i think it's better than installing a pump on timer cuz it is cheaper plus i like the idea of maximising what you oredi have, rather than add on more and more paraphenalia to your tank, too complicated and troublesome, and ex for a student like me who's trying to survive on peanut pay during industrial attachment!
kelvin,
where to get valve for $2?
I bought my stuff oredi
valve (2pcs) = $9
hose clips (4pcs) = $4
3 way splitter = $2
suction cup for rainbar(2pcs) = $2.50
rainbar = free using leftover unused parts from old rainbar.
white tape = free cuz kop from workplace
total = $17.50![]()
u saved a total of $22.50.. as for the price of valve.. i anyhow estimate the price one.. me hardly get any spare equipment once my tank is up and going.. paiseh for misleading u on the price.. anyway.. some valves cost $0.30.. i dun know what type u talking abt...[] hoping to see your DIY gadget soon here...

No timer? or you using the light timer to do switching?
yeah will be taking photos soon, but a bit leh cheh cuz no digital cam, so will be taking then scan.
and no timer lah, it's not a solenoid valve, where got $$$$$? anyway I tried it last nite and it's great! I don't even need to turn off my DIY co2, what I do is simply swith off flow to the reactor and on the flow to the top rainbar. in the morn, everything is ok, everyone's swimming happily in the current produced, and the best part is the co2 is allowed to accumulate in the reactor till about 3/4 so when I switch the water flow back to the reactor I get an immediate co2 boost to make up for the loss during the nite!
only con is that the current produced by the top rainbar is causing the floating debris to swirl madly throughout the whole tank and some get stuck in the xmass moss wall, but to me it just shows that the whol tank water is being circulated well.![]()
think your setup now will not have the protein film on water surface.
so consider this as a pro.
thomas liew
i had done a 3-way junction with valves ...but it is for water changing.
feels very pro when you on one side and off the other haha
tawauboy: you're rite!!!superb! another reason to justify my spending! heh....
ISZ: the company I"m currently attached to does technical stuff so opening closing valves doesn't make me feel pro, but makes me feel sian, cuz remind me of work!![]()
think of it the other way lor.. hippo... when u working.. turning such valves, imaging u doing that for your tank lor.. perhaps it might help.. psychological lor..[]
