    Dear all,

After so long, wanted to get my hand dirty again... hehee...
But recently i saw the usage of LED growing become popular. So thinking of setting one small tank of the size below.

Kindly assist me to share what brand of LED is suitable for growth of moss or some other foreground plants like glosso?

    Any idea ?

    Hi there,

Some few bros had problems with this type. Maybe only low requirement plants like java ferns.

You might want to explore other models.

Hi Robert. Please share the DIY process with us I'm sure since it can be done and utilized by you, the LED light must be good enough for growing plants!

    Hi guys ,

Thanks for all the comments and i think is a very interesting topic that all planted hobbists would like to know about this!!
I should try to DIY but i don't have time lately hahaa... But on saturday i go to C328 to buy a LED lighting brand is aquazonic with 6++ watt for my tank. It stated better penetration.
Not sure how truth.. so shall post the result soon after a week or 2 for all to review , just in case hobbists would also want to find out about this topic.

Do see below post for start .
    Day 1:

    Heli view of the tank
Notice the LED have blue and white function, I have read some article on line and some site stated that blue light is easier to penetrate in water so is better for plants than the red light , thus i think this is why this blue light is found on this lighting.

Re: LED vs PL light - for tank 30x17x18 cm (Planted)

Bro, As you have just changed to an LED , you will see that the light is a lot brighter. It could be your old lamp has lost it's light performace after long usage like 6 months or more If you are using the aquazonic Sirius 30cm led lamp, it will be the 8w type. For general usage with the type of plants that you have, I guess you will be ok. If you have more plants, you will need maybe another 50% more power to have the plants doing well.

led are made up of various wavelength. Blue led comes with specific wave length and is very useful for marine aquarium as his will be the light that the marine animal see. Blue and red wavelength promote plant growth.

The problem with having only red and blue light is that these lights wave are NOT very friendly to human eye. We have problem seeing in this light. So your tank will look less bright and dull. So a fine balance of red blue and white is needed to optimize lighting.

As for my led, I specifically choose only white light as I want my tank to look bright when I am looking at the fishes, shrimps and plants in the tank. So far my white lights, are also keeping my plant and fish healthy.

Have tested and it does not seems good for plant growth... The plants like lack of deficiencies.
Have added flourish and some DIY fertilizer but the effect does not seems working...
Did once water change between the week but does not seems to grow well for HC.

Have you tried lowering the height of the led? Place it closer to the water surface. What is the total wattage of your led lightset?

Which model of the beamsworks LED lights are you using? You may not have enough lights for your tank. I don't think it is fertilizer issue if you constantly add them on a weekly basis.

60 90 120 degree led available in the market too. 120 more even lighting under the coverage, 60 has more penetration.

Are you referring to the optics, i.e. lenses, for the LED & not the actual diode itself? If so, there's even a 40-deg variant for very focused water penetration. For deployment of the different angled beams on tanks of different dimensions, you may wish to check out:
