ONLY breed bettas IF you have the space to accomodate the fries. Im not discouraging you, just need to remind you what will you do if you have 50 plus baby betta fish and no space to place them?
If you can provide them a space to grow properly, then it should be alright
First things first, you gotta have a healthy pair of betta, or have extra females (ration 2:1 male) just in case the female isn't suitable.
Here's the break down list:
- Tank, preferably 2ft for water volume and the fries' swimming space. Small air sponge to create a gentle water movement.
- Put some indian almond leaf or known locally Ketapang leaf.
- Put some hiding places, moss/floating plants. No need to heavily plant the tank
- Condition the pair with live food for atleast a week. Tubifex have been used by some breeders but I mix with frozen bloodworms in between
- Once things are set, you can release the male into the tank, followed by the female afterwhile. Just monitor them for a while. Try not to disturb them too much
If things go well, you should see the male building a huge bubble nest and there should be eggs there.
Once the eggs hatched, you can feed them with boon (daphnia, and the best IMO), microworm (There's been issues with the fries stunted growth if you overfeed with microworm) or Baby brine shrimp.
The methods are not exhaustive. This is a method adopted by me when I'm into breeding bettas 3 years ago. You can get more results from Arofanatic's betta forum. Alot of guru's down there to provide more help![]()
