How reliable is the term 'thin-leaved RTL' ? Is this a home made name?

Like to find out the real name for this plant too.

yup, Teo sold it to me as RTL, then I found it different from other people's RTL which has thick, bullated and purple leaves. So I call mine Thin-leaved RTL lor

Choy, that means Teo sold you a QOS as RTL

I will stick to the more commonly known name, QOS 'Queen of Siam'

No, at that time there was no mention of the name QoS, and I have been told the QoS leaves are thick and not easily bruised. Also the pattern on the leaves are different.

    Hi hwchoy

What do you mean by thin-leave and thick-leave tiger lotus? Are they of different varieties? I just got a bunch fr C328 yesterday and this one has thinner leaves and more fragile stems compared to the 1st bought elsewhere. The 1st bunch is a small plt and cerrtainly has sturdier stems...the leaves also feel thicker. I don't know if the leaves will thin out as they grow bigger, and the stalks will become slender and flimsy w ht. Maybe it's all too subjective, heh? But one lfs selling quality plts had told me that they're all of the same variety but develop differently only because of different growth conditions like fertiliser, light, etc. Care to clarify this?

Totally agree w you, they look nice as a centrepiece in a big tank. I got impatient w the 1st small and short bunch, which never seem to grow any taller, so I got another tall one fr C328, but it looks a far cry from yours, and those I've seen at Sam Yick.

    Re:

well you should know how much to trust what the LFS says

anyway there are many many species of Nymphaea occuring naturally, not counting the thousands of hybrids created by humans. The "thick-leaved" and "thin-leaved" tiger lotus are clearly different plants, one has a rhizome and the other does not.

If you want a submersed centre piece, you should not get the one I now have. The thick-leaved version (more common, and displayed by Sam Yick) tend to be shorter and bushier (I have 3 of them in my pond). The one I am showing here (thin-leaved) tend to grow tall and the leaves form a funnel rather than umbrella shape. Doesn't look good as a centre piece.

Then my 1st bunch must be the thick-leave var. The 2nd one must be the thin-leave type. I note that the other difference is in their $. My 1st bunch was costlier if size is counted. SY sells a bunch for alot more than C238.
