Fwoah, you need plants for a 20ft or not j/k

Don't you think you giving yourself too many choices? Firstly, consider the theme of your tank (high light/ low light/ maintenance) this will half the list immediately.. secondly, look at the maximum size or height of the plants.. if you notice, some rosette plants you choose require considerable space and height... some stemmed plants grow up to 1m if you allow it too grow. Thirdly, consider how much you willing to fork out for plants? Always remember to work around your means and constrait.. giving a list these long wouldnt make things easier for you to choose. Get a plant book, understand the requirement.

those height can only use as a gauge, in tanks, they grow differently and at times, larger and bigger than what is stated

Hi,

Can I suggest that you try to do a search on some of the plants that you're more curious about? It's better to see other sources of info as sometimes the info may vary. Sometimes things like height are very subjective to the kind of environment the plant is grown in, so leave some allowance. A stated height of 20cm doesn't mean the plant will stop at that height.

The kind of plants will largely depend on what kind of tank you're going to keep, ie low tech or high tech, and the amount of maintenance you're willing to put in. Some plants don't need to be maintained, some can be cut right across the top, some will need to be topped and replanted, some grow very fast in high light/CO2 and need to be pruned weekly or they'll overrun the tank. Research is crucial so you'll know what you're getting into and don't feel that the hobby has become a chore.

Easy plants usually tend to be very fast growth kinds. Some of the plants can be obtained from places such as Teo's farm at very affordable prices. Other plants might be gotten from other forum members. If you get them all from Tropica, the prices average at $15-20 a pot.

Not all.. some are.. like Hemianthus callitrichoides (SGD$ 15 per pot), Monosolenium tenerum ("Pellia") (SGD $18 per pack). The rest could really depends. But most of them you can get them for free if you know which door to knock But at least have a concept of the look of your tank then ask for the plants. You might be in for a big surprise. #

30 or so.. is still quite alot. Since some of them will be bunch plants. You might look and see which plants you want them as centre pieces. These plants usually you need only 1. As far as I see you might not need more then 4 plants of this type. the rest just fill in to see which contrast well with your centre pieces and wohla... your tank design is complete. Of coz that takes you to the waiting stage of getting trimmings from people or get it from stores.

PS: mix some fast growing plants with slower ones... these fast growing ones will suck up the extra stuff that you throw in.

What you are doing is like asking the good folks here what car, what kind of home decor, or what clothes to buy, when the best person to know this is yourself... and though it might seem strange, one often needs to get to know oneself.

May i suggest that you spend some time looking at the tank gallery section and members tank pages, as well as buying or borrowing the Amano books to get a better idea of what you would like to replicate or model your tank on......

Personally i won't care about the plant difficulty..... it's a very rough gauge at best...... and my own observation on planting aesthetics is that the fewer the species, the better the effect.
