is it!? I thought the head a bit too droopy for pugnax as in pic 3.

I got it at a aquarium in yishun. They have 2 pairs. But they don't really know how to take care of them. But I cannot afford 2 pairs so bought 1
They look like a Betta Prima to me. But shop keeper says its a pugnax.

Betta pulchra has shorter body compare to Betta pugnax.
Maybe these so call "Betta pugnax" are actually Betta pulchra.

It is a pugnax lah. Think he got it from the shop called "Go Nature" or "Thats Aquarium" The fish has been there for awhile, thus, lost it colour. Been to some aquarium who start selling wild betta after the newspaper article about the "New Trend" in fish keeping.... sadly seen some shop keeping these fishes in container (Tau Hua container) which is too small for them! Poor fish can't even move!

Yes, I got it from Go nature. Upon hearing they got some pugnax I went there. They have 2 pairs for sale. They keep one pair in 6x6x6 tank and another pair in pineapple tart container. This pair has a bit more color then the other and so I bought this. The fish seems very scared. Always hiding. Seems very stress. The shop owner feeds them small fishes. He say they only eat small fish. I was puzzled. But i went back and gave it the conditions the IBC-SMP.org website recommend and they are now not that shy. Even comes to my hand for food.

Actually cannot really tell the difference when they are young. the difference becomes obvious when pulchra reach like 2 inches..
i will upload a pulchra picture with straight body shortly.

they are definately not falx.
they could be juvenile pugnaxs,may not be pulchra.
the rays formation on the tail are different in pulchra,
B.pulchra's chromatophores on the body are more intense
than those of B.pugnax, there are also difference in the
operculum,membrane,pelvic rays and other etcs.
other pointers on difference of pulchra and pugnax
maybe with regards to meristics and stuff.
perhaps you could check with senior members of
AAGB for confirmation.

Opps, did i say they look like falx? Or Prima? Well, I have falx at home and compared already. So different.

AAGB is an association for anabantiods in britian
they have very knowledgeble people on anabans
i think they have opened membership for overseas
members. i think you can find them on yahoo.

Where got ciam...... U know Jun is on Wild Betta for a long long time liao mah. So it is not surprise for him to work into those detail. U also pro mah.....remember the imbellis and simplex incident....kekekekekke....jus joking lah.
So Lyon guess u know who to look for when u hv prob with wild betta liao. :P Kekekekeke (Jus arrow Jun) BTW try to do a small and simple planted tank for your wild betta. Coz if u keep them in bare tank....chances of you seeing their colour is pretty rare. :P they also prefer dim lightings.
BTW MrTree and Jun....think you guys going to be impress with my NEW net....kekekekekeke

hahahaha, ya lor..the "simplex" turned out to be imbellis..mouth brooder turned out to be bubble nest builder, not to mention the size and color. damn jia lat.
