that filtration rate is fine. Most impt is to check whether can ur pump be used for marine. Similarly, what sort of filtration are u looking at? i gather that it is a sump from the way u mentioned.

u can choose to drill a hole.. if not, partition a portion of your tank for that purpose... making it into a IOS.... drilling a hole on existing tank is a bit scary.. u probably might want to consider getting a pro to do it..

Why not use an I-Box? You do not need to drill a hole in the tank. This equipment will transfer your water from the main tank into your sump. Using gravity.

The i-box is placed outside of the tank, just like a hang-on filter. You hang it at the back of your tank. There are different sizes available.

Budget wise would set you back ard $135 if I'm not wrong. There's a contact nbr available on the webby. Call the seller.

Wow. $135 for that is quite expensive. I was thinking between a range of $50 to $80. In that case, I think getting a new tank is more worth it because I do not want the water to over-flow of the i-box. Quite dangerous for power supplies nearby.

I believe the durso pipe in the i-box prevent any overflow of the water. Only if the water stopped entering the I-box, then the whole operation will stop. You can call the seller to confirm the price as I'm not very sure. I've got mine 2nd hand. In the addy I've provided, there are a few shop that sells this item. You could visit and check out closely the product.

Or you could visit www.sgreefclub.com and look into one of the forum there regarding the I-box. The person there, Ian I believe his name is, is the inventor and the owner of the I-box as well as some other items he had made. You can discuss more on the function as well as the price. I believe the I-box is an ingenious way to transfer water from 1 tank to another without the use of a pump. Just my opinion. Hope this helps!
