Err...sorry bro. It depends on your scape or the type of aquarium you want.

What are you going for? For certain scapes; aquarist finds fauna that compliments the scape. Some folks are fish specialist. They go for a certain species and try to breed them. There are so many fish in this world bro how to answer you question. Say for example iwagumi, aquarist usually will go for small fishes like tetras. So you need to give more info. I'm pretty sure you have an idea what you want. So you got to give us your ideas or setup you want for the tank before we can advice or recommend on the fauna.

LOL that's what I'm talking about. Hehe. Hmm, if you're going to put plants, then might need to put substrate.

For the fish for 2ft, hmm Discus? Goldfish? I've seen people just leaving it bare bottom. Opinion is based on observation. So you might want to wait for others to reply.

VSGenesis, Discus will outgrow when they grow up, and people usually do not keep a lone discus. Goldfish will depend the type kept.

    Jervin,

If your looking for nice fishes to show maybe Rams, Apisto, Silver Shark, Kong Ming... and if your liking Plecos.
I think the list will go on further but i'll stop for now, it will depend on your liking and interest of the fish which is more important.
The ones above do grow but most likely will not outgrow the tank, plus the 1st 2 adult size still smaller then your hand.

@ felix, Oops, is it? My bad. Was basing it on the tank being bare. There was a guy who had 100 discus in his house. Breeder. Bottom bare but my bad, the tanks he had were all 4ft and above. So no discus but they are pretty!!! Hehe.

Ya goldfish poops a lot. The more you give; the more they poop. I've stop having goldfish some time ago.

But bro, why bare tank. Maybe explore a scape to mimic a certain fish's habitat? Eh, how about gouramis? Outgrow tank?

Ahh..I see. Cool bro. Wish you luck. =)

    From Wiki.
The Bala shark, Balantiocheilos melanopterus, also known as the tricolor shark, silver shark, or shark minnow, is a fish species of the family Cyprinidae, and is one of the two species in the genus Balantiocheilos. This species is not a true shark, but is commonly called a "shark" because of its torpedo-shaped body and large fins. It is endangered because the population decreased by 50% in the last 10 years.

    Re: 2ft x 1ft x 1.5ft - Ideas for fish to be kept

I disagree on the comments made on discus!
I think you should give some consideration to discus.

If you placed a nice piece of driftwood or bogwood in the tank, (Amazon biotope), (check out under this key word search in this forum), you can find some examples of discus setups.
Whether you choose domesticated or wild strains of discus is your preference.

For simple (less maintenance), setup (bare tank/no substrate) you can put a pair of discus in the 2 feet tank (start with 2-2.5 inch fellas). Add 2 corys, or a few neon tetras / one of 2 small whiptails/ pelcos, to mop up the excess food( act as cleaning crew), and you will have a beautiful setup! With good filtration (Diy sump or canister) Water change can be twice a week (half tank or two big pails).
If you can manage that sort of maintenance, please consider this setup.

Depending on your feeding, the discus will take about 6-9 months to grow to 5 inches. You can feed on tetra bits and frozen bloodworms. And beef heart if you want the discus to have a varied and to "beef" them up!

The side profile of the discus may look big, but the actual footprint from the top is relatively small, compared to the chucky size of goldfish.

Alternatively, you can still go for the Amazon type setup, but put pelcos, corys inside and cardinal tetras.
    Altum angels are also beautiful.

Do let us know your choices! Include your filtration setup please.
5 feet planted discus tank, turquoise, melon, leopard, blue diamond. Two 1 feet Shrimp tanks with FRS & CRS.

    Re: 2ft x 1ft x 1.5ft - Ideas for fish to be kept

Fish-keeping is such a fascinating and all-encompassing hobby which offers unlimited possibilities of pleasure, satisfaction and fulfilment for anyone who is aquatically-inclined.

One can find immense pleasure and joy in keeping fish by simply buying a $2 packet of mixed Platys or Guppies usually meant for water cycling and food.

Or, one can spend hundreds or tens of thousands of dollar trying their hand on Prize Goldfish, Discus, Arowana, Koi, or even sharks. The possibilites are endless. But once one has been a fish-keeper, one will always have that deep inner itch to keep at it.

Yes, silver shark is common name used.
I only commonly see this variant and they can grow big but mine flew out of the tank after a year. (IMO flying shark :P )

So in short your asking TS to keep Juveniles for starters? I would assume you have kept them from juveniles to adults and thus recommend a pair only.
The few folks i directly know who kept discus in 2 footers all upgraded in the end when they wanted to have more then just 2 adults.
IMO, yes young ones can be kept. But then it's when they grow up for some it would feel that it's abit cramped. (that will depend how they hobbyist feed them.)

Anyway, For Jervin one of the discus tanks.

    Re: 2ft x 1ft x 1.5ft - Ideas for fish to be kept

No offence meant, but if it is the first time you are keeping fish, I suggest the best thing for you to do is to buy a $2 bagful of platys/guppies to rear for 3 months as practice. After you succeeded in keeping those fish well and healthy, you can then progress to spend money on good fishes.

This may sound stupid, but it will save you a lot of money in expensive fish. Fish-keeping is more complex than many people think.

    Hi jervin,

Good to hear you have made up your mind on the live stock. Hope to see pictures of your setup soon.

Thou I cannot advise on the parrotfish as no experiences with them. But very sure there have quite a number of folks keeping them.
