    hi i have been using oceanfree brand fan for cooling my 2 ft and 3ft tank
    i have 4x and 6x fan ......
    using it for maybe more than 6 mths ..... i didnt really maintain it
    worst happen some of the fan stop ......
    now i try to clean it .... and even strip the parts and cover .....
    then i try to turn the fan using my finger and still it has resistant ...
    i cant see how i cant tear the fan apart to fix it liao......
    anyone has this problem wif fans ?

    this is a common problem. happens to some fans while some other fans can last much longer, even though they are of the same brand.

    one possible solution.
    1) get a contact cleaner with has lubricant in it. (from sim lim tower)
    2) move your fans away from your tank and switch them on.
    3) spray the contact cleaner into the fan. use generous amounts.
    4) let the fan dry and cool down.
    5) run the fan again and repeat (2-4) until fan runs smoothly.

    if it still fails, break out your wallet..........

    will those bigger, single fan last longer ?

    The best thing with this fan is that they are waterproof. At least I think they are. I have accidentally dropped the fan into the tank for one or twice and till today, they are still working fine. Except later on, I have to change water to remove all the dust that was originally accumulated on the fan.
