Seems to be an issue of new tanks that have very low PH readings lately. As such I am trying to find out the possible common causes.

Are you cycling in a bare tank or with soil? What is your ph now?

Yes, noticed this too, with a bare-bottom tank, & a tank with substrate (mixed GEX Shrimp soil with ADA New Amazonia Aquasoil). Both tank achieved pH of 5.0 consistently using aged tap water (that is also processed with SeaChem Prime).

pH 5.0...I don't know how my snails are going to grow healthily.

Bare tank with 5.0 PH? That is very interesting. You have big driftwoods inside?.

I'm afraid eventually you will see many of your snails with whitish corroded shells.

Wow so far seems like the everyone is starting with tap water. So what is the cause of such low ph in the new tanks?

Maybe. But use of soil is not really a new thing. Previously, we could lower the ph using soil but it rarely goes to the low ph 5s and stays there. Usually after a while it will come back up to the ph 6 region.

Hmm, then it must be something to do with the buffering capacity of our tap water. Mine drops from pH 7.2 to 6.8 when left stagnant for about 3-4 days. I think I need to do another test.

As usual PRactise I dose ph down this time it went below ph 5 after a few days it sit at 5 assuming it climb back but it stay put at 5 for the last few days.........

Yes it drop actually when you add a air stone into your aged water it will
    Happen.

Last time I think the purpose was to aerate the tapwater to air out the chlorine faster.
